It is hoped an underpass, that connects Fosse Park with Braunstone, can be declared an official "graffiti zone".

At the moment the underpass, on Narborough Road South, is covered in tags.

Leigh Spencer, who regularly uses it to get to work, said having it declared a designated legal street art zone would have benefits.

"It needs refreshing - it's starting to look a bit rundown," he said.

"I think with some really nice street art down here, it would really enhance the area for the community, really make it somewhere that's nice to walk through and enjoy."

    St Margaret's underpass

It wouldn't be the first underpass in Leicestershire where graffiti has been allowed.

From August 2019, the St Margaret's underpass underneath the city centre ring road was officially declared a "graffiti zone".

Izzy Hoskins, from Graffwerk in Leicester, said: "We regularly get people commenting that they now use this space, and they will walk though as a shortcut when they wouldn't previously - that's elderly women, families, everyone."

She said the area used to be "neglected" and "a magnet for anti-social behaviour".

Leicestershire County Council, who own the underpass, said it will investigate the idea of making a legal graffiti wall along with Blaby District Council.
