The defunct court building in Buxton could open as a "Nightingale" court to clear a crippling backlog in delayed cases.
Most courts across the UK have been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, but some Derbyshire hearings have continued virtually.
Buxton's court building closed in 2016, but Hardyal Dhindsa, police and crime commissioner for the county, said emergency funding could be used to reopen the court and help clear the backlog that's worsened over the past three months.
Meanwhile, Chesterfield Magistrates' Court could soon reopen its doors to a reduced number of cases.

Theatres across the UK are "not far away" from facing permanent closure, the artistic director of Nottingham Playhouse has warned.
Adam Penford said theatres need financial investment and clear dates so that they can plan ahead.
His intervention comes after the government published a five-stage plan for the industry's return on Thursday.
Mr Penford said it could take years for audience numbers to return to levels seen before the coronavirus pandemic forced all venues to close in March, adding a "complete collapse and closure" could come if they aren't financially supported.
As well as theatre work, Nottingham Playhouse also runs programmes with youth groups, learning disabled adults, and those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or have suffered from substance abuse.
Quote MessageVery few people are going to take the risk [of rehearsing again] because once you start going into rehearsals, you start spending money and nobody actually knows when that performance can happen and [when we can] sell tickets."

A social distancing officer role "to ensure public safety in these unusual times" has been advertised online.
The advert does not say which organisation is offering the post, but states the successful applicant would work in the Market Harborough, Lutterworth, Broughton Astley, Kibworth and Fleckney areas of Leicestershire during the day.
It reads: "Due to current regulations on social distancing, opportunities have arisen for the need to ensure that social distancing is adhered to in busy areas following the reopening of many shops and businesses.
"Would you like to be part of the team that ensures the safety of the public in these unusual times?"
Key responsibilities include managing "queuing hot spots, people gathering together, social distancing not being observed, issues of anti-social behaviour, other behaviour which may cause concern".
The role is listed as lasting for three months but the advert says it may continue past that point.
Applications close on 2 July and anyone applying is required to undergo an advanced DBS police check.

A primary school in Leicester has stayed open despite a positive coronavirus test.
It is not known whether the result relates to a pupil or member of staff at Spinney Hill Primary, but the school confirmed public health officials advised no action was required.
The school is currently open to pupils in some year groups and children of key workers in line with the latest government guidance.
Leicester City Council said: "There was an isolated case of a positive test at Spinney Hill Primary, but as the individual concerned was not on the premises for nine days prior to their positive result, public health officials advised that no further action was required.
"Staff continue to be to be vigilant and ensure that all current guidance on social distancing, cleaning and hand washing is rigorously followed.
"All parents have been contacted and no further concerns have been raised. There have been no further cases."
