Police divers, drones and rescue volunteers have all joined the search of a man who has been missing for more than three weeks.

Nottinghamshire Police has enlisted the help of its drone teams and divers, as well as 35 Nottinghamshire Search and Rescue Team volunteers to look for Michael Dennington.

The teams are searching a large area of Mansfield, including King's Mill Reservoir.

The 58-year-old was last seen on CCTV footage leaving King's Mill Hospital on 26 May.

Det Insp Kim Binns said they were carrying out "rigorous enquiries", adding: "We know Michael left King's Mill Hospital, but from there the trail ends so we are currently exploring two possibilities that he has either travelled further afield, as he seems to know lots of people in different areas, or fallen into difficulty and come to some harm nearby hidden away from view."

Mr Dennington's son Jason said his father had mental health issues and spends time sleeping rough or sofa-surfing, but it was unusual for him to not speak to family and friends for this long.

A councillor says she hopes muck spreading from farmers around a disused quarry will deter people from visiting the area.

The quarry at Harpur Hill in Buxton, known as the Blue Lagoon, has been visited by thousands of people during the coronavirus lockdown despite several warnings from emergency services about the toxicity of the water.

Councillor Linda Grooby, from High Peak Borough Council, said the situation had become "intolerable" for residents this year and hoped the short-term action would make a difference.

"It's not going to damage the environment but hopefully it'll act as a bit of a deterrent," she told BBC Radio Derby.

"In the long-term, we are going to have to move forward with doing something like fencing because we can't let the problem continue like this - both for the public's safety and for the residents."

Dubbing the area as the "poo lagoon", farmers posted on a local Facebook page, external that they had taken it upon themselves to spread the slurry because residents "have had enough".

  8. Villagers unhappy about plans for new recycling plantpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 22 June 2020

    BBC Radio Leicester

Residents in the village of Shawell in Leicestershire have accused a waste contractor of "shoe-horning" through plans for a new recycling plant during lockdown.

Beauparc has submitted an application for the new plant in the village which could process up to 150,000 tonnes of rubbish a year.

But villagers are unhappy about the potential environmental impact and say they are "already swamped by HGVs".

"We are not nimbys," campaigner Natasha Raven said. "We have already got plenty in our back yard including a quarry and landfill, but this proposal doesn't need to be here and it doesn't make sense to build it so close to a residential area."

Beauparc said residents will not see more vehicles on the roads and will "work with communities around the facility and act as a responsible waste contractor".

Leicestershire County Council said it was aware of concerns but "unable to comment further as matters still need to be considered as part of the planning application process."

    Westferry project

The Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick is facing further controversy over his approval of a controversial £1bn pound property development in east London financed by a Conservative Party donor.

He gave the go ahead to the scheme on the Isle of Dogs earlier this year against the advice of planning inspectors, although the decision's now been reversed after legal action by councillors.

Robert Jenrick told the Commons that he did sit next to the developer Richard Desmond at a Tory fundraising dinner, but insisted he didn't talk about the application.

Now it's been disclosed the media tycoon did show him a promotional video about the project.
