Three Shrewsbury heroes who saved an eight-month-old baby from drowning when the child’s pushchair was blown into the River Severn have been awarded top national life-saving honours., external
The leader of the Unison branch at Shropshire Council has welcomed council plans to spend £21m over the next five years on new computers.
On top of that the authority will have to pay running costs, and councillors will meet to discuss the proposals next Thursday.
Alan James told us the spending was desperately needed.

Wheelchair tennis players from across the UK are in the county this weekend for the Shrewsbury Open.
More than 40 players are taking part in the three-day tournament.

Shropshire Council has now found alternative operators for all but one of the bus routes operated by GHA Coaches before the company went into administration.
Five school buses and six other bus services have been restored, external, through a combination of other bus firms and Shropshire Council's own fleet.
The only remaining one is the 101 Bridgnorth Town Service and the authority says it is working to get a new operator for that one.

Sandy Lyle's Open is going from bad to worse and looks set to finish bottom of the leaderboard, external, with the second round drawing to a close.
The Scot, who started his career at Hawkstone Park, finished his 18 holes seven over par - that's 21 over par in total and needless to say, he won't be making the cut.

Renovation work at Shrewsbury's Catholic Cathedral on Town Walls is nearing the end of its first phase.
And the new entrance to the building should be complete by the time of the Shrewsbury Flower Show.
The workmen have been creating a new oak screen, which will make the more entrance more attractive, improve disabled access and allow the main doors behind it to remain open during the day.

Shropshire Revolution play Staffordshire Surge this weekend, knowing that they have to win to keep alive their hopes of making the playoffs.
A victory, followed by wins over the division's bottom two sides should see the Revolution finish in second place and probably set up a playoff against a side from Scotland.
But defeat would end their hopes, even if the Surge were to lose their remaining games.

Telford's Carnival of Giants returns tomorrow, with a collection of extra-large puppets parading through the town park.
This year there will also be a collection of life-sized dinosaurs, as well as street performers, dressing-up and sports activities.

If The New Saints can beat Apoel Nicosia in Cyrpus on Tuesday, they'll face Scandinavian opposition in the next round of the Champions League qualifiers.
The draw was made at UEFA HQ this lunchtime and paired them with Rosenborg from Norway or Sweden's Norrkoping.
Rosenborg lead 3-1 from their home leg last week they play again on Wednesday.

Telford Tigers have announced two more pre-season friendlies - back-to-back games against Hull Pirates.
They will face their EPL rivals in Humberside on Saturday 3 September, before the two sides meet the following day in Telford.
