  10. Champions League: Man-of-the-match Baker warns of heatpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 13 July 2016

TNS defender Phil Baker says they put in a team effort to hold Apoel Nicosia to a goalless draw in the Champions League.

His appearance equalled Saints coach Scott Ruscoe's Welsh record of 30 games in Europe and the 33-year-old will set a new record if he plays in the second leg in Cyprus on 19 July.

And it might sound like an obvious thing to say, but man-of-the-match Baker is warning the heat could be a factor in Cyprus.

    Quote Message

It will probably be the same again but a lot hotter out there. The lads will have to work twice as hard in heat, be a bit more organised and not do as much running."

Meetings will be held at the three schools to explain the plans and letters have been sent to parents.

    Quote Message

This is not a decision to close the schools, but a decision to consult on the amalgamation of the three schools, requiring the closure of two of the sites and enlarging the provision on the third site to accommodate the displaced pupils."

    Cllr David Minnery, Shropshire Council

  12. Councillor says pool move 'fundementally the wrong decision'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 13 July 2016

Not all Shropshire councillors are in favour of Shrewsbury's swimming pool moving to Sundorne and at a meeting earlier, several spoke out against the proposals.

Lib Dem councillor Hannah Fraser said closing down The Quarry baths and building new ones on the outskirts of town would leave students and pensioners needing to catch a bus to get there.

    Quarry pool

Members of Shropshire Council's cabinet approved a recommendation to move the pool, but agreed to put that on hold for 12 months, to see if someone could come up with proposals to keep it on its current site.

    Quote Message

For me it's fundamentally the wrong decision that it should be somewhere else. It's clear its where people want it to be and its not just because it's some sort of feeling they have. People won't be able to get to one up at Sundorne, it will be wrong for the town."

    Hannah Fraser, Shropshire councillor

He will join a number of other players with experience of top-level ice hockey, including Jonathan Weaver, Phil Hill and Jason Silverthorn - Tait believes that experience will be important.

    Quote Message

Experience goes a long way and the good thing is that there are guys on the team that have a lot of experience. We can all take something from that, especially when it comes to settling into a team and getting a good start to the season."

  17. Swimming pool campaigners 'uplifted' after meetingpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 13 July 2016

Swimming pool campaigners who were at a meeting in Shrewsbury earlier say they feel more hopeful now, despite a decision by Shropshire Councillors to move Shrewsbury's pool to Sundorne.

The banner-carrying pool campaigners turned up in force and applauded councillors who supported their calls for the baths to remain where they are.

    Andy Giddings
    BBC Shropshire

Det Insp Rob Mountford said this sort of theft traditionally increases in the summer holidays when teenagers are out later than usual, but added "the loss of a phone containing personal data and photographs can be a real cause of anxiety".

    Quote Message

We do want to urge them [young people] to be aware of their surroundings, particularly when out in the evening. It's common for people to walk around with expensive mobile phones in their hands whilst listening to music or using social media, which means they may not notice if someone is following them."

Det Insp Rob Mountford, West Mercia Police
