    A mum from Myddle, north of Shrewsbury, is trying to raise awareness of a bacterial infection, following the death of her day old daughter. 

    The group B streptococcus bacterium is common, but can be fatal when carried by a baby.

    More than 200 school pupils, from 13 schools across the county, are taking part in a remembrance event at Southwater in Telford.

    It is being held to commemorate local soldiers, especially those from the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, who were killed during the Battle of the Somme.

    A number of storage containers have been broken into at a building site in Highley, the police say.

    Plumbing items and a commercial jet washer have been stolen and a mechanical digger on the site was damaged in the break-in on Monday or Tuesday.

    The news that GHA Coaches has gone into administration came as a surprise to staff.

    They were called into a meeting this morning, to hear the news they had all been made redundant.

    The BBC caught up with these workers in Wales.

    There are more than 490 solar panels on the roof of Shropshire Council's headquarters in Shrewsbury and I've been up to see them today.

    The council says they should generate enough electricity to supply 8% of their total energy needs - reducing their annual electricity bill by £16,000.

    A new centre for vulnerable people has been officially opened in Telford.

    The Southwood Activity & Wellbeing Hub offers exercise courses from hill-walking to Zumba, as well as advice on transport, cooking and finances, to help create a sense of independence.

    We were there earlier to see one of their classes.

    The Birmingham Pub Bombings are never far from the headlines, even after four decades, thanks to the families’ campaign for truth and justice. Today we’ve been hearing from Michelle Sealey who was only six months old when two bombs exploded in city centre pubs in 1974. 

    Twenty one people died, including her dad Paul Davies who was only 17. Michelle is now supporting campaigners who are calling for answers ahead of new inquests ordered by the coroner. 

    And if you’re a Harry Potter fan you’ll be hard pushed to top the Shrewsbury family who have spent thousands turning their home into Hogwarts.

    Reece Lindsay from Priorslee has been selected to represent Great Britain in a world kickboxing tournament.

    The 19-year-old attended a similar event in Geneva in 2013 and won gold.

    The Wuma World Championships are being held in Sicily later this year, but his family can't cover the costs this time, so they are appealing for sponsorship., external

  17. More bus routes restored after GHA Coaches ceases tradingpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Shropshire Council has been busy today, trying to find bus companies willing to take over the routes operated by GHA Coaches, before they it went into administration.

    And it has now managed to find alternative operators to run bus services to and from Sevendale Special School in Shrewsbury.

    It's also found another company to run the 501 service to and from Ellesmere and both will resume on Monday.

    A teenager from Baschurch is heading for the USA to play tennis. 

    Immie Cowper, 17, has been playing the game since she was very young and currently competes at county and national level.

    Shropshire's Sandy Lyle had one of his unhappiest experiences at an Open Championship as he opened up with a 14-over-par 85 at Royal Troon.

    The 58-year-old former Hawkstone Park amateur, playing in his 41st Open at the age of 58, dropped six shots on his way to the turn in 41.

    Starting with a triple bogey seven at the tough 11th, where he drove on to the main Glasgow-Stranraer railway line, he went further off track with eight more shots in as many holes.

    Lyle's round matched his worst at an Open, on the first day at the notorious Carnoustie Open of 1999, when he also shot a 14-over 85.
