Shropshire's Sandy Lyle will be playing in his 41st Open when he tees off at Royal Troon in Scotland on Thursday.
The Shrewsbury-born former 1985 Open and 1988 Masters champion, now 58, will be within five of the great Gary Player's Open record of 46 appearances, all consecutive, from 1956 to 2001.
In the draw for the 145th Open Championship, Lyle is paired with another former Open champion, American David Duval, who won in 2001, and Hampshire amateur Scott Gregory.
But it could be a week for the waterproofs on the Ayrshire coast. It is already raining. The wind is getting up. And the forecast is not good.
The woman who stood for UKIP in Shrewsbury at the last election, Suzanne Evans, says the rules for her party's leadership election are "ridiculous".
UKIP's National Executive Committee has decided that candidates must have been a party member for five years or more, a ruling which excludes a number of high-profile members of the party and Ms Evans herself - who is currently suspended from UKIP.
The leadership election was triggered when Nigel Farage announced he was stepping down last week and Suzanne Evans has said she would be interested in the job, if she is allowed to stand.
Quote MessageI cannot imagine a decision more ridiculous and more likely to bring UKIP into disrepute than one which means people such as Douglas Carswell and Mark Reckless, our current and former MPs, and the latter also a Welsh AM, cannot stand, despite the huge dedication they have shown to the party and their current elected positions."

West Midlands Police says the expenses case against ex-UKIP MEP Nikki Sinclaire has been "long and complex".
Outside Birmingham Crown Court earlier, after being cleared of fiddling travel expenses, the 47-year-old claimed £1.5m of public money had been spent to build a case against her - a figure as yet unsubstantiated.
Superintendent Maria Fox said: "This long, complex inquiry has been investigated in a diligent and professional manner."
Quote MessageIt resulted in extensive evidence being presented to the Crown Prosecution Service which they accepted as significant enough to charge Nikki Sinclaire. Our criminal justice system quite rightly demands a very high standard of proof and we acknowledge the verdict from the jury today."
