    Flooding between Craven Arms and Shrewsbury means rail services are severely disrupted this morning.

    Trains are cancelled between Shrewsbury and Hereford. It's hoped services can be restored by 09:30.

    Yesterday the emergency services dealt with several cars getting stuck and homes flooded in or near Craven Arms, Church Stretton, Easthope, Acton Round, Hanwood and Pontesbury.

    A yellow weather warning has been issued for "heavy, persistent rain" across the West Midlands.

    But the good news is that the weather is expected to improve in about 24 hours. In the mean time motorists are advised to be careful, with slippery conditions causing a number of crashes.

    More flood alerts have been issued, this time on the rivers Tern and Perry, affecting areas around Yeaton, Rodington and Walcot.

    Levels are expected to peak tomorrow afternoon, the Environment Agency says, external.

  13. Mixed views on Lidl applicationpublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    The plans to build a new Lidl store next to Shrewsbury Town's stadium on Otley Road has provoked some mixed views.

    Shropshire Council received 36 letters of objection. Some were concerned about the effect on match-day traffic, others feared it might impact on the chances of a long-delayed Waitrose store being built on Otley Road and some said the site should be used for something else - like a DIY store or swimming pool.

    The authority, which discusses the application tomorrow, also received 123 letters of support, with some saying they would like to see a discount supermarket on that side of town, rather than a Waitrose.

    And the applicants, Shrewsbury Town, have given assurances that it would create a new community football pitch to replace the one which would be lost if this store is built.

  18. Armed robbery foiled by shopkeeper with stickpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    The Shrewsbury shopkeeper who faced down an armed robber at the weekend said he wasn't that nervous when it happened.

    Ranjit Singh said the man came into the shop, saying "I shoot you, put everything in the bag", but he responded by asking the would-be robber to wait a minute and grabbed a large stick.

    When the man threatened to shoot him again, he said he replied, "come on then, shoot me then" and the man ran off, pursued by Mr Singh.

    He says he feels "alright" now and won't be taking any time off at the store he has run for the last five years.

  20. Golf: Chesters proves point with tour qualificationpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    Golfer Ashley Chesters, from Whitchurch, says he's "quite excited" to be playing on next season's European Tour and jokes that he has proved a point to his parents.

    He qualified after playing the last 10 qualifying rounds in the space of just a fortnight.

    Chesters said that getting on the tour "where all the money is" would enable him to make a living from golf, something his parents once doubted.
