    The A483 in Newtown is closed in both directions this morning between the A489 Llanidloes junction and the Middle Dolfor road junction, because of an overturned car.

    Dave Hassall has been named as Player of the Year by the Shropshire Disabled Cricket Association. 

    Dave, who plays for St Georges, a team made up of disabled cricketers from Oswestry and Shrewsbury, was honoured for his performances for the side in the league in 2016 and for his overall contribution to disabled cricket in Shropshire.

    The SDCA runs a winter indoor league for cricketers with disabilities. Currently, the league comprises of three teams who play in an indoor cricket format over the winter months.

  6. Shrewsbury Town 'very disappointed' by supermarket delaypublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Shrewsbury Town says it is "very disappointed" that council planners "chose to defer" a decision to move a covenant from a plot of land earmarked for a supermarket to another at the same site.

    The covenant requires the land to be available for community use.

    In a statement, Shrewsbury Town CEO Brian Caldwell said in failing to make a decision on the covenant, the council was not only delaying Lidl's plans to build a store, but also delaying an expansion of the club's own community activities.

  7. Council wants different name for new constituencypublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Telford and Wrekin Council is set to support new-look parliamentary constituencies, but wants the name of one of them changed. 

    The Boundary Commission wants to move Bridgnorth in with the Wrekin instead of Ludlow, in a seat called "Bridgnorth, Wellington and the Wrekin".

    Councillors are being recommended to agree to the new boundaries tonight but to call for the seat to be called "The Wrekin and Bridgnorth". 

  8. Boxing Club looking for donations to help save a semi derelict buildingpublished at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    A Telford boxing club is trying to raise money to help save an abandoned building. 

    The old football pavilion on Hills Lane in Madeley is being done up by the Lenny Woodhall Community Boxing Club.

    The club has members as young as five and says it just needs a few hundred pounds to help do it up.

    The Captain Webb Primary School in Dawley is to close tomorrow because of drainage problems. 

    It follows advice from the Environmental Health team at Telford and Wrekin Council.

    The school hopes to solve the problem over the weekend, and to reopen on Monday.

  10. Plans approved for a supermarket in front of Shrewsbury Town Football Clubpublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Plans to build a Lidl store in front of the Shrewsbury Town Football ground on Otley road have been approved by Shropshire Council.

    But there is likely to be a delay as the land on which the supermarket is to be built currently has a covenant which states that it has to be used for community use.

    The covenant will have to be transferred to another piece of land, before any building work can start.

    The King and Thai has been given a "royal warrant" for upholding traditional ways of preparing Thailand's national cuisine.

    Three members of staff at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen have been nominated for an award - by the patients they treated recognising the level of care they gave. 

    Physio Kate Betts was nominated by Meira Lloyd Owen, after she had an accident that left her paraplegic. Kate helped her recover and gave her the confidence to use a wheelchair.

    Surgeon Robin Banerjee was nominated by Susan Griffiths, after he helped her with two hip replacements in six years. 

    And nurse Penny Oak was nominated by James Hunter who was treated for an unusual bone growth in his spine. The winner will be announced tonight.

  15. Jeremy Corbyn: Shropshire needs two A&Espublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says both of Shropshire's main hospitals should keep full A&E facilities. 

    Long-awaited reorganisation plans, which have yet to be finalised, are set to centralise blue-light emergency care at either Shrewsbury or Telford, although both would still deal with most cases. 

     Mr Corbyn says Shropshire's too big to just have one emergency unit.

  16. Appeal for baby clothes and toys to help disadvantaged families this Christmaspublished at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    A Shropshire charity is looking for donations of clothing, toys and toiletries for babies and young children to help vulnerable families this Christmas. 

    The Shrewsbury and Oswestry National Childbirth Trust wants to help children under the age of two and it's already received 17 referrals from a number of agencies within Shropshire.

    Drop-off points include Rent a Space on Battlefield Road in Shrewsbury and Palmers Cafe on Claremont Street.

  18. Plans approved for new hotel on Southwaterpublished at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2016

    Telford and Wrekin Council has approved plans for a new 68-bedroom hotel, on land to the south of Southwater Way, close to the lake. 

    There'll be an outdoor seating area and public open space area at the west end of the building, which will form an extension of the existing Southwater Square.

    The hotel is part of the Southwater development, a mixture of leisure, recreation, food, drink, hotels and a library.
