A week of painstaking work is underway to re-build an important stained glass window at St Alkmund's Church in Whitchurch.

The Rector of Whitchurch, the Reverend Judy Hunt, says despite the scaffolding, the improvements are clear.

    Quote Message

I can already see that the colours are so much more vibrant than before it was taken out and restored. You can see the expressions on the faces of the figures in the window much more. It will be really exciting when the scaffolding comes down and we can see it in all its glory."

  10. A&E future might be left openpublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016

An NHS meeting is taking place behind closed doors, about now, to try to agree a plan for Shropshire's A&E departments, but it's possible we might get no decision today.

Instead of recommending emergency care is based at either Shrewsbury or Telford, the Future Fit review team could agree to go to public consultation next year with no recommendation.

    NHS sign

If that does happen, we can expect a lot of anger from critics, who will say that after spending three years on this review, at a cost of £3m, they should be able to make a decision.

Councillor Roger Evans says if owners can be encouraged to sell or rent them it would help people who are struggling to find accommodation and bring in money from the government.

    Quote Message

If a house has been empty for more than six months it goes on a special register and if Shropshire Council can return that house back into accommodation, [the authority] would get £1,500 per year for four years off the government as a special bonus."

The BBC has been taking a look at ambulance response times and the delays ambulances face when dropping off patients at accident and emergency departments.

Only last month the West Midlands Ambulance Service said the delays at hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford had become a serious concern and that "something drastic has to happen now", before the busy winter period.

In response, the hospitals said they are working on the problem and discussions have taken place with the ambulance service, but too many patients are facing delays before they can be discharged.
