    Shropshire Council's canteen has had to close because a rat has been discovered there.

    The Column Restaurant at Shrewsbury's Shirehall headquarters has been deep cleaned and is being monitored by pest control officers.

    But managers say it would be a safety risk to reopen until they're confident the rodents have gone.

  2. Shawbury military wives' choir to perform at cathedralpublished at 13:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    The Shawbury Military Wives' Choir will be performing at Lichfield Cathedral tonight. 

    It's to tie in with the release of a new album for the festive season from the massed Military Wives' Choirs.

    Shawbury was one of about 60 choirs from across the country who took part in the recording and tonight they'll be singing songs from the album, alongside two other choirs.

    The home of a Telford boy who's fighting cancer is going to be transformed in the new year. 

    The BBC TV show DIY SOS have agreed to convert 11 year old Matthew Coopers' home in Trench.

    Matthew has been in hospital for over a year after being diagnosed with cancer, but his home needs renovating before he can come home.

    The Welsh Premier League leaders have won all 16 of their league games so far this season and on Friday they beat Airbus UK Broughton 4-0 to pass Bangor City’s record of 15 wins in a row, set in 2010-11.

    You might not think it, but this cold weather is inspiring salmon and trout in our rivers to get a bit frisky and make little baby fish.

    Chris Bainger, from the Environment Agency, said river levels had levelled out after the recent flooding, and most salmon have been able to get upstream to their spawning grounds.

    He was out in Shrewsbury earlier, checking for salmon around the weir.

    The Bridge School in Telford has had to partially close this morning, because of a water leak. 

    Telford and Wrekin Council say the children in class Spaces 1-4 are either being picked up or going home by bus.

    Parents are in the process of being notified and engineers at the site, which is attached to the Hadley Learning Community (above), trying to fix the problem.

    Paul Hurst says he wants his Shrewsbury Town players to lighten up, to help the club's fight against relegation.

    Town have slípped back to the bottom of League One and the new manager says training sessions are a bit quiet at the moment.

    A bigger focus on preventing health problems and treating people closer to home are included in the latest plan to redesign the county's health system, according to a health trust. 

    The plan has come in for criticism from local council leaders about the lack of financial detail. 

    Simon Wright, chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust, helped produce this document.

    Here's a photo of yesterday's horse rescue, taken by a firefighter from Wellington.

    It had become trapped in a cattle grid and as you can see it had to be lifted out.

    Firefighters also used air bags to help the 30-year-old animal.

    Critics of a document drawn up by NHS managers to help them decide what Shropshire's health services could look like in the years ahead have described it as a code for cuts totalling more than £100m. 

    The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council, Shaun Davies, says he'll oppose the Transformation Plan.

  17. Horse rescued after becoming trapped in cattle-gridpublished at 09:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Firefighters spent two-and-a-half hours freeing a horse from a cattle-grid at Monkhopton, near Bridgnorth, late yesterday afternoon.

    The 30-year-old animal was eventually freed using airbags and a crane.

    Last night the 16 contenders for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award were revealed.

    Two Midlands Olympic gold medallists have made it onto the shortlist, including Warwickshire showjumper Nick Skelton - nominated after winning individual gold at the age of 58. 

    Staffordshire's Adam Peaty is on the list after becoming Britain's first male swimming gold medalist in 28 years.
