    Work to replace a water pipe in Prees, which has burst several times in recent years, is starting.

    Severn Trent is spending £150,000 to to replace a 1,600ft (500m) section of the 12-inch (30cm) pipe and said a section of Moreton Street (pictured below) would need to be closed to through traffic.  

    The job should take about a month to complete, Severn Trent said.

    A Telford man is going to be sitting on every single seat in the main stand at the Bucks Head this morning. 

    Ian Bamber is using it as a practice run for sitting on each of the 22,000 seats at Preston North End's Deepdale stadium - his home town club.

    He'll be raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support, after his sister was diagnosed with incurable cervical cancer and his mother had to have a mastectomy.

  5. Sport: Telford Tigers tighten grip on premier leaguepublished at 10:01 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2017

    Telford Tigers tightened their grip on the English Premier League title race with a 6-2 win over Bracknell Bees last night.

    Tigers are now nine points clear of second-placed Milton Keynes, but they have two games in hand in order to catch up.

    Tigers took the lead after just seven minutes, thanks to Jason Silverthorn, although they were pegged back by a Bracknell goal just moments later. 

    The final session saw some clashing of handbags as both Adam Jones and Doug Clarkson were involved in fights with Bees defenceman Josh Tetlow. 

     Jonathan Weaver and Sam Zajac rounded off the scoring for Telford, alongside a consolation goal from Bracknell.

    The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel north to face Hull Pirates.

    Scene after man hit by train at Harlescott in Shrewsbury

    In the incident, at the Harlescott level crossing, the man suffered severe head and pelvic injuries. 

    Ambulance staff treated him and he was taken to hospital in Stoke. 

    Trains were delayed for some time as investigations got under way.

    Plans for a large-scale chicken farm in Roden are causing some concern. 

    A local farmer wants to diversify and build four chicken sheds, with 65,000 birds in each. 

    A number of residents are concerned as it's one of several chicken farm planning applications within a four-mile radius. 

    They're also worried about the possibility of bad smells, lorries and pollution.

    Ludlow Town Council will discuss a plan to put its share of council tax up by almost a quarter.

    That doesn't mean the entire bill rises by a quarter - it's the town council's share.

    For the council tax year 2016/17, its charge was just over £100 for a Band D property. 

    In rural areas around Ludlow it was considerably less - as little as £2 in Boraston.

    Trains travelling north in Shropshire towards Whitchurch are delayed for up to an hour after a person was struck at Harlescott level crossing, in Shrewsbury.

    Delays are expected on the line towards Crewe until about 09:00.

    There is no news yet of the person involved.
