    You've been having your say on Facebook about major work on Meole Brace roundabout, external in Shrewsbury.

    A section of the roundabout is closed between Oteley Road and the retail park.

    The Severn Valley Railway saw a small rise in passenger numbers last year, thanks partly to the visit of the Flying Scotsman.

    The number of paying passengers rose from 204,889 to 208,479, but that's still some way behind it's best ever year.

    In 2011 the historic railway carried more than 215,000 passengers.

    Telford Tigers can take another big step towards the English Premier League title with victory over Peterborough Phantoms at the Telford Ice Rink on Sunday.

    They need four wins from the remaining seven fixtures to guarantee the trophy and the Tigers have already played their opponents three times this season, winning two and losing once.

  12. Another maternity unit shuts overnight because of staff sicknesspublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    Another Midwife Led Unit (MLU) has been forced to close overnight because of staff sickness - this time it's Ludlow.

    Last night the Bridgnorth unit had to shut overnight and on Friday it was the Oswestry MLU and over the Christmas holidays there were a series of closures for the same reason.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says this isn't unusual and all the women likely to be affected have been contacted and offered places elsewhere.

    Next year will mark 50 years since Ifton colliery at St Martins closed and this weekend a meeting will be held to decide how it should be commemorated.

    One of the items on the agenda at the Miners Institute will be choosing a design for a new statue in the village.

    The New Saints travel to Scotland this weekend, to play St Mirren in the semi-final of the Irn-Bru Scottish Cup.

    It's the first time teams from outside Scotland have been invited to play in the tournament and TNS are the sole remaining non-Scottish team.

    The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre has got its mascot back, after a make-over.

    Tusker the woolly mammoth had to have some of his hair replaced, because he was starting to look a bit threadbare after 15 years on display.

    Here you can see what he looked like before (left) and after (right) the work.

    Catherine Crowther, a local volunteer, carried out the hair-replacement using materials donated by Shropshire teddy-bear makers Merrythought.

  19. No objection to the removal of 87 phone boxespublished at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    BT says there has been no objection to the removal of 87 phone boxes in the county - 60 in the Shropshire Council area and 27 in the Telford and Wrekin Council area.

    The authorities objected to the removal of another 112 and BT says that it has an agreement with Ofcom that it won't remove any phone box if an objection is raised following consultation.

    There have been applications to adopt another 24 kiosks and BT says it will look at those requests in the coming months.

    Phone boxes can be turned into anything from defibrilator kiosks to mini-libraries.

    People from deprived areas are being offered one-to-one help, access to courses and voluntary work.
