    Almost one in three children across Shropshire are failing to reach expected standards in literacy and numeracy by the time they reach school, according to a leading national charity.

    The number rises to almost half, for children from deprived families and girls fare much better than boys.

    The charity Save The Children wants greater investment in early years teaching and support for nurseries.

    Jerome Finnigan from Save the Children says Shropshire's figures are in line with the rest of the country.

    BT wants to rip out the workings and either remove or hand over responsibility for the 214 telephone boxes - because of extremely low use. 

    Following a consultation with towns and villages, Shropshire Council is now recommending that 113 remain in use due to rural isolation, poor mobile phone coverage and the phone being near an accident blackspot.

    It says it's happy for another 60 to be removed altogether and 23 adopted by communities where they will be turned into defibrillator kiosks. 

    BT has said it will only disconnect a phone box if there are no objections and it is also be consulting on the future of 37 phone boxes in the Telford area.

    Plans to change school catchment areas in parts of Telford are to be tweaked. 

    The council's pushing ahead with plans which will make Telford Priory the usual school for children in Muxton.

    But, after protests from parents, the council's now said it'll continue free transport to Burton Borough school in Newport for existing pupils. 

    And, although it says the walking route to Telford Priory is safe, it'll look at improvements to cycling and walking routes.

    There's a warning that crash for cash claims are costing the car insurance industry, so ultimately drivers, hundreds of millions of pounds a year. 

    Police in Telford have had several reports in the last few weeks about potential incidents in Lilleshall, Dawley and Madeley.
