    Shropshire's hospitals say they've had their Accident and Emergency departments have had their busiest day of the year so far.

    Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says its A&E departments saw nearly 370 people yesterday, but less than a third of those people needed to be admitted to hospital for further treatment.

    The trust warned earlier this month that the two A&E departments are seriously understaffed and are being kept open by the "goodwill" of staff.

    It took over an hour to lift the Sabrina pleasure boat out of the River Severn in Shrewsbury this morning.

    The boat has to be taken out the water every two years for a check-up.

    The news that a West Mercia dog handler has lost his bid to keep his police dog has got you talking on our Facebook page., external

    Hazel Jump wrote: "I understand both sides of the argument. But I agree with the police. That dog has gone through a lot of training. To retire it before it's done its service is a waste of funds. But I'm hoping that when they do retire the dog, that the original handler has the option of adopting it."

    Carol Winter also had thoughts on the story: "The dog has a job to do, and in the process of its job, it may save many lives, save many young people from trying their first drugs.. stop a terrorist or find a missing person.. The handler would have known this when he took the dog on".

    But, she went on to say she hoped Sergeant Evans would be allowed to have contact with his dog after his retirement.

    Work to fill in an underground reservoir in Broseley will mean closing Dark Lane in the town for up to a fortnight.

    The road will be closed 24 hours a day from 6 March to allow Shropshire Council to bring in a drilling rig, which will be used to carry out investigation work before the infilling can begin.

  7. Extra patrols after car park rapepublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2017

    Police investigating a rape in a Bridgnorth pub car park at the weekend are putting on extra patrols around the town, to reassure people.

    The attack is reported to have happened around the back of the Falcon Pub between 01:30 and 02:30 on Sunday and the victim was in her 50s.

    The police believe she didn't know her attacker and are hoping people in the area might have seen him.

    An amber "be prepared" warning for strong winds has been issued for Thursday across the region.

    It's in association with Storm Doris.

    The Met Office says heavy rain is also likely, with some snow possible over high ground and gusts of 70 to 80mph for a short time.

    We've had plenty of thick grey cloud over Shropshire today, and it was looking pretty gloomy over Ludlow earlier.

    People in Shifnal are being asked to put pen to paper and say why they love the town.

    Signs saying "I love Shifnal" have been springing up since Valentine's Day and postcards are being handed out at the library for people to write down their thoughts.

    The town council explained that the aim was to encourage a sense of pride in the community and people have until 8 April to hand their entries in.

    There will be a small prize for the best ones.

    Farmers need a clear plan following Britain's exit from the European Union, according to the NFU. 

    The union has put forward its own plan which calls for access to the EU single market, with tariffs on other imports maintained to protect British farmers. 

    It also wants EU workers to be able to stay in the UK following Brexit and fixed-term work permits to for staff used as pickers during the summer months.

    Cattle breeding is going high tech - dairy farmer Kim Petty, from Richards Castle, is bringing in pioneering equipment from New Zealand to work out when a cow's ready to mate.

    He's won the right to distribute the Flashmate kit in the UK.

    A device is glued on the cow near the base of its tail and will monitor if other cows have been "riding", a sure sign the cow is in season. 

    It will then flash red for up to 26 hours giving the optimum time for artificial insemination.

    A retiring West Mercia Police dog handler has been refused permission to keep the dog he works with, despite a petition set up asking the force to reconsider.

    Sergeant David Evans, 59, has been told he will have to pass PD Ivy - a Malinois cross German Shepherd - on to another handler to continue working.

    West Mercia Police says it's in the best interests of the dog and the force.

    Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said sometimes dogs at the end of their working lives retired with their handlers, but there was an "obligation to spend public funds wisely and ensure best value from all our resources".

    A Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal team was called to a home at Halfway House this morning after a resident told police that a grenade had been found in a loft there.

    A display of giant, coloured birds and a floor-level mosaic will be unveiled today at Baby Bird Cafe in Oswestry.

    Cafe owner Katie Millard and Catherine Wilks from Designs in Mind want to contribute to the regeneration of Cross Street.

    A boat that tours the River Severn around Shrewsbury has had its biennial safety check. 

    The Sabrina, which weighs around 30 tonnes, needed a crane more than eight times heavier to lift it out of the water.

    John Bercow has been criticised for making controversial comments about US President Donald Trump and Brexit.

    One of the oldest bells in the country has now been taken down from a Shropshire church for renovation

    The bell at Myndtown Church is thought to be over 800 years old. It's being repaired as part of a £200,000 pound project at the church. 

    The bell should be back at Myndtown in May.
