It said Noel Conway's challenge was "a troubling case that sought to usurp the democratic will of Parliament", following a similar attempt to change the law in 2015, which was defeated in the House of Commons.
It went on to say a change in the law "is opposed by every major disability rights organisation and doctors' groups" and that "there is no safe system of assisted suicide and euthanasia anywhere in the world".

A past winner of Italy's Got Talent is looking to link up with local musicians in Shropshire after recently moving to the county to live with his family.
Daniel Adomako, external won the talent contest in Italy four years ago and has gone on to record an album.
He's now moved to Telford to live with his father and wants to meet up with fellow musicians to perform locally.

A Shropshire man who had been attempting to change the laws on assisted dying through the courts says he will making an appeal after the High Court denied him permission to take it further.
Noel Conway, who has been supported by the campaign group Dignity in Dying, said he was "very disappointed" at today's ruling, but added he would "not be deterred".
He said he has "come to terms" with fact he is going to die, but does not accept being "denied the ability to decide the timing and manner of my death".

Planning permission is expected to be approved next week to build a car parts factory in Telford.
More than 200 jobs are expected to be created.

Former Shrewsbury Town striker Omer Riza has picked up his first job as a manager - he's now in charge at Leyton Orient.
He's the club's fifth manager of the season.

His legal team had previously told the court the motor neurone sufferer had less than 12 months to live and when he last appeared in court he was in a wheelchair and using a ventilator to breathe.
Noel Conway, who is from Garmston, between Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, had gone to the High Court, seeking permission to bring a judicial review which could result in some terminally ill adults making their own decisions about ending their lives.
But Lord Justice Burnett and Mr Justice Jay ruled he did not have an arguable case to take the challenge further.
