    A cafe for people living with dementia is opening at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital later today. 

    The idea involves volunteers and support workers helping out patients and their families with activities including pet therapy.

    It follows the successful launch of a similar feature at Telford's Princess Royal.

    The defence minister Harriett Baldwin has unveiled a plaque to officially open the new defence logistics centre at Donnington.

    The shelves are empty at the moment, but it should be fully up and running by 2019.

  4. Telford's new logistics hub to 'safeguard jobs'published at 11:45 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    It's empty at the moment, but the new defence logistics hub in Donnington will become Britain's main Ministry of Defence storage depot.

    The MoD chose to build the facility in Telford in 2015, ahead of a rival bid from Bicester in Oxfordshire.

    It followed four years of lobbying by local politicians and unions, who say it will safeguard hundreds of jobs in the town and bring in many more.

  5. Talks over A&E future 'went well'published at 11:26 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Talks over the future of accident and emergency services have taken place between the leader of Telford and Wrekin Council and the chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

    It follows the decision of the NHS trust to draw up contingency plans to close Telford's A&E overnight, if staffing levels worsen - a decision which has angered some Telford politicians.

    Both men said it had been a good meeting.

    Work has begun to clear 200 tonnes of rubbish dumped alongside a railway line in Telford in December. 

    Police are still looking for the Horsehay fly-tippers.

  11. State-of-the-art military logistics centre opens in Donnington published at 09:10 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A new £83m state-of-the-art military logistics centre in Donnington will be officially opened today, with the creation of up to 700 jobs. 

    The facility will be a central hub for the storage and distribution of armed forces food, clothing and medical supplies.   

    Construction began in October 2015 and Telford and Wrekin Council says it will add £60m a year to the local economy.

    The venture is run by American company Leidos and the Ministry of Defence says it will generate savings of about £500m.

    A Polish man, trafficked to the West Midlands in 2008, is among 300 modern day slaves identified by the police in the past year. , external

    Janusz , not his real name was beaten and made to work for 12 hours a day, for just £65 a week.

    He was freed in 2016 and has been talking about his experiences as part of a BBC investigation.

    Peter Meehan, Chairman of Bridgnorth Community Transport Group, said he was "angry" thieves had stolen the wheels from one of the charity's buses.

    He said as well as the cost of replacing them, the theft would also prevent the bus from helping some of the most vulnerable people in Bridgnorth get around.

  17. Man arrested after woman found with neck lacerationpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    A woman has been found with a serious neck wound at a house in Shrewsbury. 

    The woman, who's in her 30s, has spent the weekend in hospital - in a critical but stable condition. 

    The police were called to an address on Ellesmere Road, late on Friday night. 

    They say a 35-year-old man, who's known to the woman, is in custody on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

  18. 'Productive' discussions over A&E planspublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Telford and Wrekin Council said its leader Shaun Davies had had a "productive" meeting this afternoon with the chief executive of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS trust, Simon Wright.

    Last week, the hospital trust agreed to draw up contingency plans in the case of further drops in staffing levels.

    Suggestions that the A&E at Princess Royal Hospital could temporarily close overnight were met with strong criticism from local MPs and councillors.

    Council Leader Mr Davies said he had appreciated a "frank and honest" discussion with Mr Wright and he had expressed the strength of public opinion in the area.
