    The Telford Tiger's giant forward Doug Clarkson is planning to retire after the playoff finals this weekend.

    He is going to move to Canada after the tournament, to train to be a firefighter, after a 12-year career.

    The 28-year-old has scored 83 points this season and admitted getting a bit emotional in his final game at the Telford Ice Rink last weekend.

    Harper Adams University has won another award.

    It was crowned the Whatuni University of the Year, external for the second year in a row in a poll of 27,000 students.

    It was ranked top in three of the categories being voted on - courses and lecturers, student support and job prospects and came second in another two.

    The University, just outside Newport, was voted as having providing the "best student experience" in a recent survey by Times Higher Education.

    Telford's Kelly Edwards has been named in the Great Britain judo squad for this month's European Championships in Warsaw.

    The former British title-holder is back in form, after missing the Rio Olympics because of concussion from an earlier fight.

    School mishaps, including a blindfolded child running into a goalpost and pupil hit by a cricket ball, resulted in more than £6m in compensation being paid out over a three-year period.

    Figures obtained by the BBC show a doubling in school payouts to £3.3m last year - including more than £8,500 in Telford and Wrekin.

    Shropshire Council's yet to respond to the request for information. 

    The Campaign for Real Education claims some teachers are now "terrified" of being sued.

  11. Police bodycams: Technology 'cuts complaints against officers' published at 16:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    West Mercia Police has become the latest force in the West Midlands , external to introduce body-worn body-cameras for officers.

    Staffordshire Police claim they were the first force in the UK to have them , external for all front-line officers and West Midlands Police started rolling them out last year., external

    How do police body cameras work?

    Research suggests the technology can dramatically reduce the number of complaints against officers. 

    A study by Cambridge University, reported last year, showed complaints by members of the public against officers fell by 93% over 12 months compared with the year before.

    The cameras work by usually being clipped to the top half of an officer's uniform and the recorded footage is taken off the camera at the end of a shift and stored on secure software.

  19. Police body-cams to 'improve evidence gathering'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Cameras being worn by West Mercia Police officers from today will help gather evidence and show "the real impact" of a crime on victims, the force's chief constable says. 

    More than 40 officers are being equipped with the technology, with plans to roll it out to all front-line staff by the end of the year.     

    Anthony Bangham says the new technology will also offer "the best chance to secure a conviction in court".
