  2. Artwork to celebrate museums anniversary on displaypublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    An exhibition of artwork inspired by the Ironbridge Gorge Museums has opened at the Coalbrookdale Gallery.

    Local artists were invited to submit their work earlier in the year, as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the museums, and prizes were given to the best ones.

    Below you can see the winner of the under-12 category, My Grandma, by Holly Ngo, and the winner of the 18+ age-group, Across the Gorge, by Jan Bell.

    More than 70 works of art are on display at the gallery, next to the Museum of Iron and Enginuity, and they will remain there until the end of the year.

    Telford's new mayor will be elected at a meeting in Oakengates tonight.

    Telford and Wrekin councillors are expected to choose last year's deputy-mayor, Labour's Stephen Reynolds.

    Councillors Shaun Davies and Richard Overton are expected to continue as leader and deputy leader, with Lee Carter as the man in charge of finances.

  5. Ice hockey: Telford to keep the Tigers namepublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Telford's ice hockey teams will be able to keep the Tigers name next season after all.

    The management had thought it would be impossible, following their move to the NIHL North league, because of problems with the registration of the trademarks and had launched a fans' competition to find a new name.

    They say an agreement has now been reached to continue using the name and logos, so the two teams in the NIHL North will be known as Telford Tigers 1 and Telford Tigers 2.

    The name competition has been scrapped.

  6. Firefighters called to two washing machine firespublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Firefighters have been called out to deal with two washing machine fires in the Telford area in the space of just an hour and a half.

    The first was at a house on Muxton Lane, Muxton, just after 12:00 and the second was in Wellington at 13:26.

    Both fires were out before the fire crews arrived.

  7. RAF Cosford 10k run to returnpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    The RAF museum at Cosford has announced it'll be repeating its Spitfire 10k run this autumn.

    Last year 650 people took part in the event, which involves runners going up and down the runway at RAF Cosford and past the historic aircraft there.

    Last year was the first year the run was held and participants were encouraged to dress up in wartime clothes.

  9. Watchdog gets baby death information from hospitals trustpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    The nursing watchdog has confirmed it has received the information it asked for from the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust about a baby's death.

    The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is investigating a number of midwives involved in the care of Kate Stanton-Davies, who died only hours after being born in Ludlow in 2009.

    Earlier in the month the NMC criticised the trust for not providing crucial information, despite them actively pursuing it.

    Shrewsbury Town's new striker Arthur Gnahoua says he is excited about joining the League One club.

    The 24-year-old scored 15 goals for Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North last season and said he hoped to repeat his success at the Greenhous Meadow.

    Gnahoua said he was strong, but he wouldn't describe himself as a player who could hold up the ball and instead likes to "turn and run at players".

  11. 'Stay vigilant' urges council leaderpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    People in Shropshire are being urged to stay vigilant by the chief executive of Shropshire Council, in the wake of the Manchester terror attack.

    Clive Wright said that while the risks in Shropshire are "comparatively low", plans are in place to "fight this campaign of fear".

    The planned closure of the AGA foundry in Coalbrookdale has been described as "very sad news" by the Telford and Wrekin councillor for the area.

    Nicola Lowery said the announcement came as a shock, but that she was keen to see the buildings remain in industrial use.

    The site has been making cast iron since Abraham Darby set up his Coalbrookdale Company there in 1707 and has been through a number of hands since.

  13. Homes plan for pub beer gardenpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    A pub beer garden in Bomere Heath could have five houses built on it.

    A planning application to carry out the work at the The Red Lion has been submitted to Shropshire Council and councillors will make a decision on it when they meet this afternoon.

    The parish council is objecting, claiming the site, known locally as the donkey patch, is too small to build five homes on and that building there would mean the loss of valuable car parking.

    People all over Shropshire stood in silence this morning to remember the victims of the Manchester terror attack.

    They have been joined by staff at local authorities and the emergency services.

    And in churches, such as Wellington Methodist Church (pictured below), candles have been lit.
