    A boat which took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 has been resdiscovered by the owner's granddaughter.

    Annie Gabb, from Bridgnorth, Shropshire, had heard stories about her grandfather's boat The Anne when she was growing up after the war, but never dreamed she would be able to track it down.

    After a chance conversation inspired her to begin looking, she discovered the boat was for sale.

    It was in a poor state and had to be completely renovated, but is now fully operational and will take part in the 80th anniversary of the evacuation of Dunkirk.

    Shrewsbury Town have signed the Kidderminster Harriers striker Arthur Gnahoua.

    The 24-year-old scored 15 goals for the National League North side last season.

    The organisers of a big pop concert in Shropshire on Saturday say it will go ahead, despite the Manchester bombing.

    The Let's Rock concert in the Quarry, Shrewsbury, features artists from the 1980s.

    Appearing, among others, will be Billy Ocean, Nick Kershaw and local band T'pau (lead singer Carol Decker pictured).

    Concert goers are being warned of "intensive bag searches" as they enter the park.

  5. Police appeal for information about rape in Telfordpublished at 08:54 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Detectives investigating a rape in Telford are appealing to the local community for information.

    It has only just been reported but is said to have happened in the early hours of New Year's Day on a footpath between Viewland Drive and the Hortonwood roundabout, in the Trench area.

    The police are asking people to try to remember if they saw anything.

    Det Sgt Ian Rutherford, of Telford CID, said: "I appreciate that the incident happened a number of months ago, but perhaps you heard or saw something in the small hours of New Year's Day that you thought nothing of at the time?"

  11. Chamber of commerce chair laments loss of 'iconic' foundrypublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

    Richard Sheehan, the chairman of the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, said he would be sad to see the loss of Coalbrookdale's AGA foundry, which he described as "iconic".

    He also said there "was always a risk" of cuts, once AGA Rangemaster was taken over by the American Middleby Corporation.

    A coroner has ruled that a 70-year-old woman who was found dead in her home in Bucknell in February died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

    An inquest in Shrewsbury heard Diana Dacey lived with her husband Phil and two dogs at Chestnut Meadow.

    In the early hours of 24 February Mr Dacey was woken by a loud bang and rattling noise. He went to investigate and saw a blue arc coming from their electricity supply.

    The bungalow was quickly filled with black smoke and Mrs Dacey died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

    At the time of the fire, it was reported that an electricity pole outside the property may have been involved, but the Health and Safety Executive today ruled that out and the deputy coroner, Heath Waterman, recorded a verdict of accidental death.

    A book of condolence has been opened in Telford for the victims of the Manchester terror attack.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it will initially be open at the Southwater One building in Telford Town centre, but will also appear at its offices in Madeley, Newport and Wellington over the coming days.

  17. AGA foundry closure to affect 35 staffpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

    AGA says 35 employees will be affected by the closure of its foundry in Coalbrookdale and that some of them are being transferred to other jobs within the company.

    The company explained it had taken the decision because it was "no longer economically viable to maintain production" and that it would be getting its cast-iron oven-parts from suppliers in the UK and Europe in the future.

    It also said that all assembly of AGA and Rayburn products will continue at its site in Ketley, along with product development.

    Police warnings about the dangers of swimming in rivers during the hot weather have been provoking some discussion on BBC Radio Shropshire's Facebook page, external.

    Darran Dorsett wrote: "It is part of growing up, young people need to find their boundaries - they don't think too much of the risks and the consequences. However, if they need assistance, then they should cover the cost of the rescue."

    And Marcus Watkin got a little nostalgic, writing: "I remember in 1976 sliding down the weir, no-one told us to get out back then, life was so much less complex back then."

    But Neil Stokes was more alarmed, adding: "People will never learn despite the number of life's this river has claimed, over the years."
