    People in the Telford area directly affected by last night's terror attack in Manchester are being offered support by Telford and Wrekin Council.

    The authority is also flying its flags at half mast today as a mark of respect.

    The leader of the council, Cllr Shaun Davies, said the thoughts of everyone in Telford were with the victims and their families.

    A helicopter has had a near miss with a drone in the Newport area.

    Police say a pilot flying at 1,500 ft (457.2m) reported a drone suddenly appeared in front of him forcing him to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

    Despite a search of the area, the police were unable to find the drone or its owner.

    They are reminding drone pilots to stick to the guidelines issued by the Civil Aviation Authority., external

    An application to begin removing the coal processing conveyors at the former Ironbridge Power Station has been submitted.

    Site-owner Uniper is planning to sell the station and said the work would allow the main demolition work to start next year.

    The demolition of the conveyors is expected to take 10 weeks.

    Ironbridge power station opened in 1969 and became one of the UK's largest plants. It stopped generating electricity in 2015.

    The former AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson says the club's latest acquisition John Marsden is a "good signing".

    The 24 year old striker returns to the club permanently after a brief spell on loan from Stockport County last season.

    Watson, who won the National North with The Bucks in 2014 says he's "a clever player who will get goals".

    All parties have suspended general election campaigning, following the bomb attack in Manchester last night.

    Another £60m is needed to stabilise parts of the Ironbridge Gorge and prevent landslips, Telford and Wrekin Council says.

    About £17m has already been spent to stop Jackfield village from sliding into the River Severn.

    The return of a mainstream cinema in Oswestry could be getting closer, with plans being drawn up to convert a town centre building.

    The exact location is being kept secret but those behind it say plans are going before Shropshire Council shortly.

    If they're passed, films could be shown there within the next three or four months.

  11. West Mids ambulance crews help Manchester colleaguespublished at 08:55 British Summer Time 23 May 2017

    Ambulance crews from the West Midlands were sent into the north west of England last night in the wake of last night's suicide attack at Manchester Arena.

    Crews provided support to the North West Ambulance Service while they dealt with the incident, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

    "These resources have now been stood down and returned to their normal operating areas," a spokesman said.

    Dame Judi Dench got a first look at a rose named after her at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Monday.

    It is one of three new breeds launched by Albrighton-based David Austin Roses at the show.

    The firm is hoping to add to the 22 golds it has so far won at Chelsea.

    Telford sprinter Rio Mitcham could be on his way to the European Junior Athletics Championships.

    The 17-year-old ran 10.50 seconds for 100m in Loughborough yesterday, which is inside the qualifying standard for the event in Italy in July.

    British Athletics, external are expected to make an official selection announcement next month.

  18. Arrests after teenager robbed at knife-point in Madeleypublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 22 May 2017

    Two people have been arrested after an 18-year-old was been robbed at knife-point in Madeley yesterday evening.

    Police say he was approached by two men between 18:30 and 19:00 on Silkin Way and had cash and a backpack stolen.

    The victim suffered a bite to his wrist, along with minor injuries to his hand and face.

    An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being held in custody.
