  10. Criticism for 'ridiculous' level-crossing diversionpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 22 May 2017

Tony Mantle, the chair of Onibury Parish Council, has called plans to close the A49 at Onibury for 10 days "ridiculous".

Network Rail is suggesting traffic takes a 57-mile diversion via Kidderminster while work is carried out to the level-crossing there.

    Onibury crossing

Network Rail said it would be explaining the work to local residents and businesses and Mr Mantle said he hoped there was still some "wriggle room" in the plans, which will also affect pedestrians.

    Quote Message

The level-crossing being closed is going to cause problems for local people and north to south traffic."

  11. Ludlow looks for town councillorspublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 22 May 2017

Ludlow Town Council is still looking for members, nearly three weeks after the local elections.

On 4 May 12 of the 15 positions were filled, meaning the authority needs to find three more people to "co-opt".

The mayor, councillor Tim Gill, explained that you have to be a resident to apply and added it "takes vision, courage and dedication to be part of a decision-making organisation that often attracts the attention of arm chair critics".

  12. HGVs face longest detour during A49 workspublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 22 May 2017

Work at Onibury railway crossing this summer will lead to a 60-mile diversion, according to an official route.

While local drivers will no doubt find their own way around the works, it's a different matter for heavy goods vehicles which can't use many of the same back roads - which the official diversion has to bear in mind.

A large lorry heading from Ludlow or Leominster to Craven Arms or Church Stretton (or vice versa) faces the biggest detour we think.
