  2. Police on the hunt for Whitchurch ring thievespublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 21 June 2017

    Police are looking for two men after rings were stolen from a shop in Whitchurch.

    The pair are reported to have entered Dodington's Jewellers on the town's High Street at around 16:15 last Thursday.

    West Mercia Police say they entered the store and asked about items, before grabbing a number of rings and leaving on foot.

    The offenders are described as Asian men, aged between 25 and 35 years old.

    The West Midlands Ambulance Service says it has seen an increase in heat-related call-outs of more than a third.

    The advice from doctors is to drink lots of water and stay out of the sun between 11:00 and 15:00.

    A new centre dedicated to helping the county's young business people has been launched in Oswestry.

    Shropshire Youth Support Trust opened the Youth Enterprise Centre at the British Ironworks Centre last night.

    Sir John Timpson, who runs the Timpson's chain of keycutters and cobblers, was the guest of honour.

    Telford and Wrekin Council has pledged to invest an extra £95,000, on top of what it already spends, to tackle homelessness.

    The additional cash will be spent on a number of schemes including extending a rough sleeping project to run all year round.

    Previously the service had only been funded during the three coldest months of the year.

    Shropshire Council's cabinet is meeting today to consider proposals to cut funding for leisure centres.

    The council's indoor leisure facilities strategy could see money for Shrewsbury's Roman Road Sports Centre, along with facilities in Shifnal, Wem, Much Wenlock, Highley and Craven Arms stopped by the end of 2019.

    Sites in Whitchurch, Cleobury Mortimer and Church Stretton Leisure Centre would lose their funding by the end of 2023.

    However, the council has also recommended that funding for seven of the county's largest facilities will continue, including Shrewsbury's Sports Village.

    Friends of a girl knocked over and killed by a car in Shrewsbury last week have created a memorial area for her at school.

    Olivia Reeves, aged 11, died after the crash last Thursday on Mytton Oak Road.

    Her headteacher at St George's Primary School, Sharon Munro, says she was a "passionate and spirited" individual.

    She's appealed for the family's privacy to be respected.

    A 77-year-old man has been released under investigation. He's suspected of drink-driving and causing Olivia's death by dangerous driving.

    The 17-year-old has run half a second off Linford Christie's British 100m record this season.

    Volunteers have planted 700 copper and brass forget-me-not flowers in the walled garden at Attingham Park near Shrewsbury to raise funds for Severn Hospice, external.

    The charity says a similar project last year with handmade iron flowers raised £91,000.

    The Shropshire Youth Support Trust set up a similar centre in Telford 18 months ago.
