    Tracey Higgins
    BBC Local Live

The boss of Shropshire's two main acute hospitals says are making improvements when it comes to safety in maternity.

Entrance to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital

It said changes must be made in planning, training and learning from mistakes.

There's also a problem with foetal monitoring, when a midwife checks the baby's heartbeat.

    Quote Message

For us it's making sure that we're really confident that we're giving the absolute highest safety that we can. One way that we've looked at doing that is by having a two eye system, so the midwife will be checking with mum in the room, but we also have a remote check of the CTG trace as well, so we have two eyes now looking at that trace."

Simon Wright, Chief Executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
