  2. The New Saints 1-2 Europapublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Mark Elliott
    Reporter, BBC Shropshire

A brilliant goal from Scott Quigley wasn't enough to earn The New Saints the result they wanted in the first leg of their Uefa Champions League qualifier against Europa of Gibraltar.

Goals either side of Quigley's from Alex Quillo and Kike Gómez saw them go down 2-1 at Park Hall and stand on the brink of elimination.

Saints have reached the second qualifying round in each of the last five seasons, but will need to win in Faro, Portugal, the venue of the second leg next week to make it six in a row.

I'm disappointed because that's not a true reflection of how TNS play and how we've done in Europe over the last few years. I've talked about how we've gradually improved over the years and maybe you could say we froze, just didn't play our normal game."

    Scott Ruscoe, TNS Interim Manager

  3. Hospitals 'need more midwives to avoid closures'published at 08:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Elaine Muir
    Journalist, BBC Shropshire

The boss of Shropshire's acute hospitals says they're working hard to recruit more midwives and keep open Shropshire's rural maternity units.

The midwife-led units in Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ludlow have all faced a string of temporary closures recently because of staff shortages.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (Sath) Chief Executive Simon Wright says the consultant-led unit in Telford is his priority and staff are moved there when necessary, because it's where the bulk of the work is.

    Quote Message

Inevitably we've got more mums who are fearful about being away from the main centre with all the technology that's there and if you're a midwife, within the current climate you're going to have a lower risk threshold, so you're going to be bringing more of those mums to the consultant-led unit."

    Simon Wright, Sath Chief Executive

  8. Rail seating aimed at restoring 'Gay Meadow passion'published at 17:45 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

The company approached to introduce a safe standing area at Shrewsbury Town's stadium says fans have "been quite keen for some time to get back to the sort of passion that they felt when they were in the Gay Meadow stadium".

Ferco Seating said the application might not be as simple as installing the rail-seats, because a change in the capacity of the stadium might also require changes to things such as entries, exits and toilet facilities, but it was confident it would go ahead.

And the company's managing director Michael Burnett said it could be argued his rail seating was safer than traditional seats, which he described as a "trip hazard" to fans who ended up standing during matches.

  11. Concerns raised over possible maternity closurespublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

The protesters outside a hospital meeting in Shrewsbury this afternoon say they're worried that maternity unit closures could lead to more avoidable mistakes in the future.

There has been a proposal to temporarily close rural maternity units and move to an on-call system, with the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust saying it is because the units are underused.

    Maternity meeting

Alison Hiles wanted to give birth to her daughter at the Ludlow maternity unit, but had to give birth at home instead because it was closed because of staff sickness, and said the move was an "avoidable death waiting to happen".

    Quote Message

They really need to look at finding funding to get the extra nurses that they need for the obstetric unit, to keep these rural maternity units open. Lives are at stake here

    Alison Hiles, Mother
