    The headteacher of Rushbury Primary School says he is "deeply saddened" to learn of the death of one of her pupils, seven-year-old Archie Spriggs.

    A police investigation was lanched after body was found at a house in Wall-under-Heywood yesterday and a 44-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Diane Pye said he was a "wonderful, bubbly boy and a much loved member of our school" and that "he will be much missed by everyone who knew him".

    The man who stood for Labour in Telford at the last election says he's disappointed he won't be able to stand in the town in the next general election.

    Former council leader Kuldip Sahota said he would have liked to stand again, but the National Executive has decided there will be an all-female shortlist for the constituency next time.

    Mr Sahota polled 21,057 votes at the last election, just 720 short of the winner - the Conservatives' Lucy Allan.

  3. Raiders flee after alarm goes offpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Police say thieves who tried to break into a cash machine in Market Drayton gave up after a security alarm went off.

    They believe four people forced their way into the Morrisons supermarket on Maer Lane between 05:15 and 05:30 and broke into a room containing the machine.

    They left empty-handed, but not before damaging the machine as they tried to get inside it.

  4. 10,000 crocuses to be planted in hospital groundspublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Ten thousand purple crocuses are going to be planted in the grounds of Telford's Princess Royal Hospital next month.

    They're being supplied by the Rotary Club of Telford Centre and its volunteers will be doing the work, with the help of children from the Hadley Learning Community.

    The flowers form part of Rotary International's Purple4Polio campaign, which looks to raise awareness of the fight to eradicate polio around the world.

    AFC Telford United's in-form Jordan Murphy believes the side is finally getting its stride and could make a promotion push.

    The Bucks' away record is second to none and with their home form finally improving and with the middle of the table looking tight, Murphy believes a couple of wins could make a big difference to their chances.

    Police are investigating an attempt to break in to a cash machine at Morrisons Supermarket on Maer Lane in Market Drayton this morning.

    Officers say silver Audi was spotted leaving at speed.

    The fire service was called to an incident on the same road at the same time which involved smoke in a control room, which they say had been caused by tools.

  7. Tonnes of silage and straw burn in fire near Wempublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Firefighters have been dealing with a barn fire affecting 1,700 tonnes of silage and straw in Lee Brockhurst, near Wem.

    Four fire engines were called to the blaze at 03:14 and left at 05:51.

    A 44-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder, in connection with the death of a seven-year-old boy at a house in Wall-under-Heywood.

    She is still in hospital with arm and neck injuries, which aren't believed to be life-threatening.

    Officers were called to the property on Rushbury Road at 18:15 yesterday and Supt Tom Harding said there had been "significant police activity" there, which would continue today, as they try to work out what happened.

    The house remains cordoned off this morning.

  9. Shrewsbury to get Parkour facilitypublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 22 September 2017

    Shrewsbury is going to get its first free running facility, with Sport England agreeing to contribute £10,000.

    A bid was put in by Elite Dance Studios, which hopes to have it open in January 2018, although a venue still needs to be found.

    The Dumfries side sit just one place above Telford in the NIHL North 1 table after three games.

    Trade unionists are meeting the Telford MP Lucy Allan to ask if she will support a pay rise for all public sector workers.

    It's part of their Britain Still Needs a Pay Rise campaign and they plan to introduce her to some local workers who could be affected.

    The government recently announced pay rises for some police officers and prison staff, but unions want to see pay rises for all public sector workers included in the chancellor's autumn Budget.

    Wall-under-Heywood is a quiet village just a few miles from Church Stretton and surrounded by countryside.

    Details are scant at the moment. What we do know is that officers found the boy dead at the property, along with the woman, who had suffered serious injuries.

    This is a small, quiet community and news of what happened will shock many in the area.

    Police are continuing to investigate after a seven-year-old boy was found dead at a house near Church Stretton last night.

    Police were called to the property in on Rushbury Road, in Wall-under-Heywood, at 18:15.

    A woman was also found with "significant injuries" and taken to hospital.

    Officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

  17. Head midwife says Shrewsbury maternity unit has 'ongoing issues'published at 17:50 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

    The head of midwifery at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says the maternity unit in Shrewsbury has had "ongoing issues over the past few years" and that the long term plan was to move it to a new location.

    The unit was closed for nearly two days after what Sarah Jamieson described as a "very large flood" and she said that while they do their best to maintain the building, "unpredictable issues can take us by surprise".

    The hospital trust says it is drawing up plans to improve the Shrewsbury maternity unit, with work starting next spring or summer.
