    A BBC survey of MPs has found the overwhelming majority who responded received some form of abuse during this year's general election campaign.

    Conservative MP for Shrewsbury & Atcham Daniel Kawczynski says the abuse he received during this year's campaign was "miles worse" than previous years.

    In all, 87% of politicians told BBC 5 Live they'd been targeted verbally and physically and some reported damage to property.

    There was a feeling of Deja Vu for a Shropshire cricket team over the weekend.

    Shropshire were playing Essex in the final of the national over-60s tournament at the second time of asking after their first attempt was rained off.

    But the weather played its part again in Sunday's replay - when the match was abandoned due to the rain.

    Shropshire captain John Foster says another replay will happen, but not until next year now.

  3. Couple write to PM over prostate screeningpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    A Shropshire couple are calling for the NHS to do routine testing for prostate cancer.

    Harold Taylor from Coalbrookdale is having treatment for the illness, but only after going to a screening event organised by the Ironbridge and Severn Gorge Lions Club earlier this year.

    Men over 50 can currently ask their GPs for a test, but there is no routine screening programme.

    Public Health England recommends that national screening should not be introduced, external as PSA tests are unreliable and can suggest prostate cancer when no cancer exists and at the same time miss genuine cancers.

    Harold's wife Jackie, who recently lost her brother to prostate cancer, has written to the prime minster calling for a change in the screening process.

    Bridgnorth's new £4m engineering centre is being visited by a government minister today.

    A woman hit by a train at Shrewsbury Railway Station at the weekend is not thought to be suffering life-threatening injuries, British Transport Police says.

    Officers are not treating the incident on Sunday morning as suspicious.

    The air ambulance alongside other emergency services attended the scene.

    The dream run continues for Haughmond FC as they held Boston United 1-1 away.

    They've now got another chance to make it through to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup with a replay in Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

    NHS managers from Shropshire are in London today to explain how they will keep A&E services functioning properly in the county over winter.

    They've been summoned along with other badly performing areas amid concern over growing waiting times and staffing problems.

  12. Knife surrender launches in West Mercia areapublished at 09:13 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    A four-week-long knife surrender has launched in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

    West Mercia Police says anyone can anonymously hand in a knife or other bladed weapon in bins across area.

    However, it is a surrender rather than an amnesty, so there's no immunity from prosecution if it turns out one of the weapons has been used in a crime.

    A similar campaign last summer saw more than 300 knives collected.

    League One leaders Shrewsbury kept up their blistering start to the season with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Oldham.

    Jon Nolan's second-half goal handed the Shrews a fourth straight victory, while Oldham ended the game with 10 men after Eoin Doyle's injury time red card.

    The win means Shrewsbury go 5 points clear at the top of League One, having won 7 out of 8 games.
