  1. Sharp rise in complaints against policepublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    There has been a 44% rise in the number of complaints made against West Mercia Police, according to figures released by a watchdog body.

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) say there were 733 complaints against the Mercia Police in 2016/17, compared to 509 the previous year.

    The IPCC report , externaldoes praise the force reducing the amount of time it takes to locally resolve allegations by 59 working days - the biggest drop nationally.

    These account for 27% of the total complaints received.

    The manager of amateur side Haughmond FC is calling for the town of Shrewsbury to get behind his side in tonight's FA Cup replay with Boston United.

    Matt Burton's minnows caused a shock when they drew 1-1 at the former Football League club on Saturday.

    They try again this evening at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

    Money raised by a group of men dressed up as nurses will now go to ambulance volunteers instead.

    The annual bed push around Ludlow raised £2,500, but the town's hospital rejected the donation after bosses said the outfits were "demeaning".

    It's now been decided the donation will be spent on equipment and funding for two new Community First Responders in the area.

    The chairman of Ludlow's League of Friends Peter Corfield says he's pleased to have found a solution.

    Six cars have gone up in flames and a house has been damaged on the Shropshire/Welsh border.

    The fire broke out at Pant Motor Bodies, external last night, affecting the outside of a property.

    The cause of the fire hasn't been reported.

    They held the National League North side to a 1-all draw at the weekend.

    After winning gold in Rio twice last year - he and Britain's Pheobe Pine have beaten Italy in the Compound Mixed Team event.

    Government minister Jake Berry visited the county earlier, to see the work being done at Bridgnorth's new £4m engineering centre.

    The Marches Centre of Manufacturing and Technology has been set up to boost competitiveness for the county's manufacturing firms and offer apprenticeships.

  13. £100m investment for Shropshire's Muller factoriespublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    UK Dairy giant Muller says it is set to invest £100m over the next three years, external, to expand its yogurt and desserts range - and will rely on British milk to do it.

    To accommodate the plans, the firm's three sites in Shropshire will be upgraded.

    A similar investment was announced almost exactly a year ago.

    In July 2017, the firm said it planned to create 50 extra jobs at its Donnington Wood plant in a bid to double production to 700 million pots of yoghurt a year.

    A former Shropshire teacher has appeared in court over assault charges.

    Bruce Gracie, 70, from Newton Regis in Staffordshire, was at Birmingham Crown Court charged with indecent assault of a boy under the age of 16 and gross indecency with a male patient.

    A trial date has been set for 7 November.

  15. Air ambulances land on school field after man falls nearbypublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    Two air ambulances landed on a school field at John Randall Primary in Madeley this morning.

    The crews had been called after a middle-aged man suffered serious injuries in a fall at a nearby house.

    The man was airlifted to the major trauma centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

    John Randall Primary School tweeted a message, external letting people know that the incident was nothing to do with anyone at the school.

    Shropshire's Joe Hart has shown his support for Haughmond FC after they earned a replay in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

    The England and West Ham keeper posted a message (below) on social media.

    Haughmond held Boston to a 1-1 draw at the weekend. The replay is at the Shrewsbury Sports Village tomorrow night from 19:45.

    Shrewsbury & Atcham Conservative MP Daniel Kawczynski says the abuse he received during this year's general election campaign was "miles worse" than previous years.

    The Conservative politician saw his posters torn down, others were defaced with swastikas and he says he was hounded by anti-hunt demonstrators.

    A BBC survey of MPs found the overwhelming majority who responded received some form of abuse on the campaign trail.

  18. FA Cup draw: Bucks to face Stafford Rangerspublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    They made it through to next round after beating Barwell 2-0 at the weekend.

  19. New deaf chaplain for diocesepublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    A new chaplain for the deaf has been appointed for the Lichfield Diocese.

    Baptist minister Susan Myatt is herself deaf and says she wants to give more deaf people the chance to worship in their own language.

    She is expected to lead a service in British Sign Language once a month, as well as oversee pastoral care for deaf members of congregations.

  20. Prostate cancer screening event to returnpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    A prostate cancer screening event, organised by the Ironbridge and Severn Gorge Lions Club, will return next year.

    The take-up was so high that another event has already been arranged for March 2018.

    More than 400 men turned up to get checked out and of the 400, about 60 showed abnormalities and 39 were flagged up for urgent referral.
