    If you watched Look North yesterday you'll have seen the moment that they surprised their own BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero.

    Shiv Krishan has been a community cricket coach in Yorkshire for almost 40 years, inspiring youngsters to get involved in his favourite sport. 

     He's volunteered thousands of hours of his time to pass on his skills. This was his reaction when Tanya Arnold surprised him with the BBC Unsung Hero Award:

    Sex offender Corie Adams has been jailed at Sheffield Crown Court this morning for nine years after he attacked young girls in Rotherham.

    Police say more victims could now come forward.

    The full route of the 2017 Tou de Yorkshire has just been revealed and the end of the race will be at Fox Valley in Stocksbridge on Sunday 30 April. 

    Stage One will be between Bridlington and Scarborough.

    Stage two is Tadcaster to Harrogate.

    And Stage Three will be from Bradford to Fox Valley at Stocksbridge.

    The final stage will include a ride through Deepcar and Midhopestones before the race reaches its climax at Fox Valley.

  4. 'Used needle' found by child outside Sheffield primary schoolpublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    A Sheffield mother has said she's 'disturbed' after her son found a used hypodermic needle in a hedgerow near a Sheffield primary school.

    Rebecca Ashforth, from Hackenthorpe, said her son spotted the needle just yards from Rainbow Forge Primary school on Beighton Road yesterday morning.

    Ms Ashforth said her son pointed it out as they walked to school together on Thursday morning.

    Sheffield City Council have been approached for comment.

    Hospitals are sometimes failing to keep an eye on what they've loaned out and to who, with kit like wheelchairs and crutches going missing.

    Some hospitals even refuse to collect it, saying it's cheaper to buy new gear.

    The NHS in Barnsley is being held up as an example of how to save the health service thousands of pounds.

    I've been to have a look around their recycling facility.

  7. Sex offender to be sentenced after 'hideous' attacks on childrenpublished at 09:09 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    A man who committed what's been describes as a string of 'hideous' sex attacks against children in Rotherham will be sentenced today.

    Corie Adams, 18, admitted a series of charges relating to girls aged between 12 and 14.

    The offences took place January last year and early this year.

    Police say Adams, who lived in Maltby, was such a prolific offender that there are probably other victims of his who have yet to come forward.

  8. Former teacher speaks after losing her husband to asbestos-related cancerpublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    The BBC has learned that in the last decade 140 teachers have died from the cancer mesothelioma in Britain, possibly caused by asbestos in school buildings.

    Compensation of £1m has been paid out by local councils in Yorkshire as a result of people contracting the condition in the past 10 years.

    Sue Pegram is a former teacher from Sheffield and her husband died last year from mesothelioma.

    Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart has denied claims that Kenny Jackett's departure was due to lack of transfer funds.

    The club is set to appoint a new head of recruitment, which the club's next manager will now oversee.

    Tony Stewart has told us that they've had 40 applications for the vacant manager's position and will begin the shortlisting process today.

    A man who attacked a police officer with an axe in Sheffield is due to be sentenced today.

    Nathan Sumner carried out the attack in Gleadless earlier this year which nearly killed PC Lisa Bates.

    She lost a finger and suffered numerous blows to her head.

    Sumner was cleared of attempted murder but found guilty of grievous bodily harm.

    There are calls this morning for action to remove asbestos from our schools.

    It's estimated 75% of school buildings contain the potentially deadly material.

    Figures obtained by BBC Yorkshire reveal 140 teachers have died from mesothelioma, known to be caused by asbestos, in the past 10 years.  

    The BBC has learned that local councils in Yorkshire have paid out £1m in compensation in the past decade.

  16. Watch: Man cleared of child abuse may take legal action against South Yorkshire Policepublished at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    A man from Sheffield who was wrongly convicted of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl is considering taking legal action against South Yorkshire Police. 

    Rassam Ali was cleared of the crime on appeal but only after he'd served 18 months in prison. 

    He believes police failed to investigate the case properly and he was made a scapegoat because they were under heavy scrutiny following the Rotherham child sex grooming scandal:

    South Yorkshire Police say they passed the evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service which brought a prosecution after determining there was a realistic prospect of conviction.

    It said if he wishes Mr Ali could make a formal complaint to the force or through the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

    Sheffield’s parks – and those who work to maintain them - have been recognised with two more national accolades at the annual Fields in Trust awards.

    At the fifth annual awards ceremony, which took place yesterday at Lord’s cricket ground in London, Sheffield City Council came away with prizes for the Local Authority Partner of the Year and a Showcase award for Weston Park WW1 Centenary Field.

  18. Watch: Former Chancellor in Yorkshire to promote Northern Powerhousepublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    The former Chancellor George Osborne is in Yorkshire today talking about the Northern Powerhouse. 

    Mr Osborne, who was sacked after the EU referendum, is visiting a railway engineering firm in Leeds. The former Chancellor says he wants to give business and civic leaders in the North, a voice.

    Jessica-Ennis Hill says the fight against drug cheats in athletics must continue. 

    The Olympic heptathlete was awarded her third World Championship gold medal on Tuesday after Russian rival Tatyana Chernova was stripped of the 2011 title for doping.
