  1. Police appeal after pub attack in Goldthorpepublished at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    A man has suffered serious facial injuries and lost two teeth after being bottled in a Barnsley pub.

    This was on Sunday night, just before midnight, at the New Bank pub in Goldthorpe.

    The man who is thought to have thrown the bottle has been described as white and stocky with short ginger hair and was wearing a dark coloured top. 

    He is also thought to be linked to a dark Mercedes car that was in the car park at the time of the incident. 

  2. Eight thousand and counting sign petition on Sheffield's central librarypublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    A petition, external calling for Sheffield's central library to remain a public building will be presented to councillors after attracting more than 8,000 signatures.

    Rebecca Gransbury, from Wybourn, set up the petition after Sheffield Council revealed it had given its Chinese investment partner Sichaun Guodong Construction Group 12 months to look into turning the building into a five-star hotel.  

    The council promises to keep a full library service in the city centre if the proposal were to go ahead.

    The historical child sex abuse scandal engulfing football has deepened with a special helpline set up for victims receiving 860 calls in its first week. 

    The children's charity, the NSPCC, described the number as "staggering". 

    Former sports minister and Sheffield MP Richard Caborn told us earlier this week "real concerns" existed when he was in government more than 10 years ago.

    A crowd of around a hundred people has turned up at Sheffield Magistrates Court to support two men charged in relation to a protest against tree felling in November.

  5. Police confirm Doncaster sewer body was malepublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    A Police investigation will continue today after workmen found a body in a college sewer in Doncaster.

    The grim discovery of a male body was found at the High Melton Campus of Doncaster College on Tuesday. 

    The dark and cold hampered the initial inquiry until Wednesday morning. 

    South Yorkshire police are working alongside Yorkshire Water, underwater search teams and CSI officers to find out what happened.

    A Rotherham councillor's due to be sentenced for sexual assault at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning.

    41-year-old Andrew Roddison, who denied allegations of groping, was found guilty at a hearing last Tuesday. 

    The Brinsworth and Catcliffe councillor has been suspended from the Labour party since the allegations came to light.  

  7. South Yorkshire PCC wasn't informed over dawn tree raidpublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    BBC Radio Sheffield has seen a letter from the Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings indicating he wasn't informed about the controversial early morning operation removing healthy trees on Rustlings's Road.

    The council has since issued an unreserved apology for the way in which the lime trees near Endcliffe Park were cut down.

    It turns out the Police and Crime Commissioner hadn't been told about the operation by South Yorkshire Police before it happened.

    Writing  to the Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg, Alan Billings says if he had been told he'd have advised against it, because "the likely outcome was not difficult to predict".

  8. Call for investment in HIV prevention in Sheffieldpublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    A local young people's charity, SAYiT, is calling for improved sex and relationships education and HIV awareness campaigns to halt the rise in new diagnoses of HIV.

    Eve Joseph from the charity says many people assume HIV has gone away because they don't hear much about it anymore:

  12. Rally planned for tree protesters' court appearancepublished at 08:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    Two men who were arrested at a protest over tree felling in Sheffield are due in court today.

    56-year-old university lecturer Simon Crump is due before Magistrates alongside fellow tree protester Calvin Payne, over a protest they staged on November 2 trying to protect a 100-year-old plane tree from being felled on Marden Road in Nether Edge.

    They were charged under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, which criminalises anyone deemed to be stopping people from carrying out lawful work. 

    The council has faced months of criticism over the way it's been handling diseased and damaged trees in the city, with campaigners saying some healthy trees are being removed needlessly. A rally is being held outside the Magistrates Court.

    Yorkshire Water say plans for a new underground reservoir near a castle in Rotherham, will improve the visitor attraction. 

    The company want to use green space at Boston Park to create the facility.

    Friends of Boston Castle and Parklands, external said they were "gobsmacked" and concerned by the loss of green space.
