    A junior school in Rotherham that was put in special measures three years ago has become one of the borough's best performing schools after a recent Ofsted inspection.

    Bramley Sunnyside Junior School, on Flanderwell Lane, is now in the top 15 per cent of schools in the country for progress between the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for reading, writing and mathematics, with the combined key attainment measure rising to 93 per cent – which is significantly above the national average of 53 percent.

  2. Man attacked outside Sheffield supermarket diespublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    A man who was attacked in Sheffield earlier this month, external has died. The 34-year-old was standing outside Emin Supermarket in Spital Hill early on Sunday 20 November when he was assaulted.

    He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but died today. Officers are now treating it as a murder investigation  

  3. Sheffield Wednesday tweets condolences for Brazilian air crash football teampublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Three days of national mourning has been declared in Brazil for victims of the air crash which killed most of a football team travelling to the biggest game in its history. It's prompted this response from Sheffield Wednesday:

    We've got used to seeing "made in China" stamped across the goods we buy in the UK - but now a Sheffield company is helping to redress the balance. 

    JRI Orthopaedics has won the right to sell its hip implants in China in a deal that could potentially be worth hundreds of millions of pounds

    The British Figure Skating Championships return to Sheffield today.

    The competition at Ice Sheffield covers all age groups and abilities. It will also feature skaters from the CBBC show, Ice Stars.   

  6. Rotherham Town Centre hit by power cutpublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    A power cut affected more than 200 homes and businesses in Rotherham this afternoon.

    The outage, in the town centre S60 postcode, began at 12:15. 

    A Northern Powergrid spokesman said they managed to restore the service at just before 14:00.

    They confirmed that 220 properties have been affected, the cause of the problem is still being investigated. 

  7. Got a fishy tale about the River Don?published at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    The public are being invited to share their memories and photos of the River Don at an open evening tonight as more salmon to its waters. 

    It's part of a project backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

    Don Catchment Rivers Trust are holding their open evening collecting those memories and stories at their offices at St. Catherine's House on Tickhill Road in Balby between 18:00 and 19:30.

    The Birmingham Mail , externalreports that former West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is the favourite to take over.

    Sheffield's Masters Champion Danny Willett has been named on the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016

    The Leader of Sheffield City Council has apologised for the cutting down of trees in Sheffield which has prompted some Labour Party members in the city to leave.

    A group representing the party in the city had written to Sheffield City Council Leader Julie Dore, condemning the practices used by the council to remove eight trees in the early hours of the morning on Rustlings Road a couple of weeks ago. 

    An apology has been issued and that was repeated by Julie Dore on BBC Radio Sheffield today:

  12. Sheffield community puts on a meal to raise funds for refugeespublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    The Heeley Asian Women's group has put on a community meal raising money to help refugees.

    People paid £2 or made a donation and sat down and shared food at the old Junior School in Sharrow.

     The funds will be used to help buy clothing and food for refugees, especially young children.

  13. South Yorkshire Police cleared by IPCC of trying to influence reporting on Hillsboroughpublished at 11:59 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission has cleared South Yorkshire police over accusations of trying to influence the reporting of the Hillsborough inquiry in favour of the Force after a former press officer claimed she was asked to "spin" the news coming out of the Hillsborough inquests.

    Hayley Court told the BBC she was asked to encourage reporting emphasising that fans were partly to blame for the disaster. 

    The South Yorkshire Force investigated the claims and said they could not be substantiated, now an investigation by the IPCC has also found no wrong doing.

    Ms Court says she's disappointed by the findings, and that any suggestion that she simply misunderstood the instructions she was given is manifestly wrong. 

    She says she still believes the instructions she was given breached the code of ethics designed to make the police service more open, transparent and accountable.

    Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg has been taking part in a documentary to show what happens in MPs constituency surgeries. 

    He's one of three MPs who agreed to be filmed for the programme which went out last night on Channel 5. 

    It shows him helping a family with a daughter battling mental health problems and a man who wants cannabis to be legalised for medical reasons.

  16. Health bus in Doncaster aims to take pressure off A and E admissionspublished at 11:07 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Saturday night revellers in Doncaster in the run up to Christmas will soon be able to head to the safe haven of a health bus in the town centre.

    It will be parked outside the Mansion House on Friday and Saturday nights between 20:00 and 04:00 offering drinkers and party-goers support when they hurt themselves and helping to keep them safe.

    The move is to help take pressure off of the local accident and emergency departments

    Last week officers in South Yorkshire working on Operation Trivium, external stopped 568 vehicles, seized 94 of them and arrested 32 people.

    The aim was to target foreign national offenders who use borders for modern day slavery, theft, drugs and other criminal activity.

    A 30-year-old man, who has been wanted for four years by Polish authorities for domestic violence, was held in Doncaster under a European arrest warrant and arrested a 36-year-old man for armed robbery in Sheffield.

    Travis Hallam is taking part in the annual Percy Pud 10k run in Sheffield dressed as a christmas tree. 

    You've probably heard of fell running but this man has taken it to the next level. (They fell trees, geddit?)

    He's definitely branching out.

    Travis is out training in all hours, in face you could say he's pine-ing to take part. 

    And don't accuse him of being a plank, he's raising money for the Sheffield Children's' Hospital Charity.

    Surely he should be decorated with a medal?
