    Quote Message

Chief constable Stephen Watson says he knows improvements are needed but the officer shouldn't have aired his criticism in the media:

    Mick Lunney

The number of people in Yorkshire who go swimming regularly has fallen by more than a fifth in the last decade.

Figures from Sport England show the amount of people heading to our pools at least one a week has decreased by more than 9,000.

That's despite the fact the number of public pools in the region is up over the past 10 years.

But at Armthorpe Leisure Centre in Doncaster I found plenty of those who love taking a dip:

  9. Yorkshire electorate baffled at how its MEP is replacedpublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    Len Tingle
    Political Editor, BBC Look North

After weeks of wrangling, John Procter, a Leeds city councillor, has now been chosen to become the new MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber.

    John ProctorImage source, Conservative Party

The choice was made by the Conservative Party with no need to bother asking for a new vote from any of the 1,296,701 people who turned out in Yorkshire and the Humber at the 2014 European Elections.

The party had that power because at the Euro elections we vote for a party not an individual candidate under a system of proportional representation.

That can be puzzling for a UK electorate used to the "first-past-the-post" system of electing MPs to the House of Commons where a by-election is triggered if the seat becomes vacant.

There has been concerted effort to tackle anti-social behaviour in Eastwood in recent months but BBC Radio Sheffield has been told that the flytippers are back and that over the weekend human waste was dumped on the footpath down to Eldon Road.

They say lack of collections meant overflowing bins last Christmas and they fear scenes like this below being repeated:

The building will form a key part of Little Kelham, a development of over 250 low-carbon homes.

The restored gatehouse will be an entrance to the new community, and will also house office space, apartments and a new restaurant.
