    Staffordshire's gold medal winners Adam Peaty and Joe Clarke, along with other Team GB Olympians who stayed for the closing ceremony, will arrive home later this morning.

    Some team members have returned already, but 320 athletes and support staff will be on British Airways flight BA2016 scheduled to land at Heathrow.

    The Boeing 747 has a gold nose cone and a "victoRIOus" livery.  

    There will also be pole vaults, javelins and a 6.7m sail in the hold, while 77 bottles of champagne and a three-course menu will be on offer.  

    Uttoxeter's Adam Peaty won Team GB's first gold medal with victory in the men's 100m breaststroke - Stone's Joe Clarke won the kayak K1 event.

    We'll be looking on Midlands Today this evening at a problem in Stoke-on-Trent that has echoes across the West Midlands for many people. 

    It's because people living on one housing estate in the city are warning that lives are being put at risk as some drivers treat the roads like a race track.

    Car cruisers, speeding drivers, boy racers - whatever they are called, they are being accused of making life miserable for many of the region's residents.

    The water company Severn Trent says it is tripling its intake of apprentices this year, adding the largest number of new recruits the company has ever taken on.

    More than 800 people applied for the scheme, external and 81 were recruited. 

    The apprentices will train in a variety of engineering and digital roles.

    Earlier this year, Cheshire Police announced the force was abandoning the traditional bobby's helmet for new all-purpose baseball-style caps.

    The new headgear for Cheshire's boys in blue is being introduced across the county and have just arrived in Nantwich.

  12. Jailed abattoir manager 'kicked sheep and pigs'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 22 August 2016

    The manager of a Staffordshire abattoir, who's been jailed today for food safety and animal cruelty offences, threw a sheep against a metal gate and kicked sheep and pigs, a council says. 

    At Stafford Crown Court, Anthony Bagshaw, 36, of Back Lane, Butterton, was sent to prison for 10 months after pleading guilty to 24 charges. 

    The authority say he "put people's health and safety at risk" and his treatment of animals was "shocking" - they say he's also been banned from keeping animals for 15 years.

    People living on a Stoke-on-Trent estate say they've designed artwork to try and stop speeding drivers and boy racers. 

    Lisa Llewelyn-Hughes and her daughter Jess (featured in video) live on Norton Heights and say the work shows hand-prints and names of children living on surrounding streets.

    They say they want to "humanise" the area to slow down the cars and claim the city council's, external ignored their calls for speed bumps and other traffic calming measures. 

    The authority says says average speeds on the road aren't excessive and people should report specific issues to the police.

    We'll be taking a look at the National Trust-owned Biddulph Grange Garden, external in the Staffordshire Moorlands from a totally different angle. 

    The programme will also be exploring the restoration of one of the world's only geological galleries as the hunt begins for rare fossils which used to adorn the walls. It's part of a five-year project.
