    A man and his broken-down mobility scooter were pushed home for a mile by two determined police officers.

    Cheshire Police say the pair of officers, PCs Mark Harley and Matt Stonier, were about to start a Speedwatch training course when two people told them the man had broken down. 

    The force says they tried to get the scooter working but, when they couldn't, pushed him a mile back to his home, getting him back there safely - tweeting that their "fitness was tested, external".

  2. Clown speaks out against 'creepy clowns' crazepublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    Police say they've received a surge of emergency calls reporting "creepy clowns" across the country, including across the West Midlands.

    Pat the Clown, based in Birmingham, has spoken out against the craze which he believes is inspired by American films and could badly affect the clown industry.

    The former Crewe Alexandra captain Matt Tootle has spoken out about mental health issues which he says started to affect him in 2014 when he was still at the Alex.

    Tootle is now at Notts County and is set to face his old club on Saturday at Meadow Lane. 

    The full-back openly admitted in a live video, posted on his Facebook page, that he once considered taking his own life at his lowest point.

    His former manager, the current Crewe boss Steve Davis, told me for BBC Radio Stoke that he thinks mental health issues in football are more common than people think.

    A man has suffered serious injuries to his face after he was attacked by a group of people, external on a Crewe street.

    Cheshire Police say it happened late on Saturday night on Nantwich Road as he and two friends walked between the railway station and Gresty Road. 

    They add that the 44-year-old from Chester is going to need ongoing hospital treatment for his injuries which include a fractured eye socket.

    The 19-year-old produced the assist for Lowe's goal in their 1-1 draw at Luton on Saturday.

  11. Future of Staffordshire countryside sites under discussionpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    An event is being held at Apedale Visitor Centre, Newcastle-under-Lyme today for groups and organisations interested in taking over the running of some of Staffordshire's parks, external and open spaces. 

    The county council is behind it and says it wants to find the most effective way of running its countryside estate.

    The estate is made up of six country parks, nine picnic areas and three disused rail lines. 

    The authority has drawn up four options for how councillors think they should be run in the future and include transferring management "on a site-by-site basis" to local community or voluntary sector groups.

    The father of a five-year-old boy from Stoke-on-Trent has told BBC Radio Stoke he's disgusted with a person who dressed up as a clown and scared his son.

    Staffordshire Police is warning that people dressing up in such costumes and frightening people is completely unacceptable, external and could constitute an offence.

    Officers so far say they have had four clown sightings over the weekend, all in Stoke-on-Trent. 

    Danny Hattersley says the incident with his son happened over the weekend in Stoke when a person dressed as a clown jumped out and screamed at them.

    A number of parents have told BBC Radio Stoke that a decision to get rid of a school crossing patrol in part of Staffordshire could put children's lives at risk.

    The county council has withdrawn funding for 29 lollipop men and women , externalto save £150,000 a year.

    Parents of children going to Hassall Community Primary School in Newcastle-under-Lyme, external say they feel the loss of the patrol there could lead to youngsters being run over and seriously hurt.

    The council says it will no longer supply a warden at a school if there are other crossing systems, like pelican crossings, in place.

  16. Investigation after school fire in Leekpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    An investigation is under way into the cause of a blaze at a school in Leek this morning. 

    Crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to St Edward's Church of England Academy after reports of smoke coming from the school playing fields. 

    They were on site for an hour dealing with the fire which started behind a wall, near a public park.
