    The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has thanked Tristram Hunt for his service to people in Stoke-on-Trent, as the MP has today said he's standing down. 

    The 43-year-old says he's going to be the director of London's Victoria and Albert Museum (pictured), triggering a by-election.

    A spokesman for Labour leader Mr Corbyn said: "Jeremy would like to thank Tristram Hunt for his service to the people of Stoke-on-Trent Central and to the Labour Party. Jeremy wishes him well in his future pursuits at the V&A." 

    The deputy Labour leader Tom Watson said he was "disappointed" Mr Hunt was quitting, saying his departure will be "keenly felt" by the party and parliament. 

    But former UKIP leader Nigel Farage tweeted: "Tristram Hunt's resignation from Stoke will be followed by many others. Labour is doomed."

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say, despite their car ending up badly damaged and the wrong way round on the northbound carriageway, no-one suffered serious injuries.

    They say the air ambulance was stood down en route to the scene just before midday.

    A woman's been hurt after being hit by a car in Stafford this morning, external.

    Staffordshire Police say they were called just before 07:30 to Lichfield Road near the Queensville roundabout. 

    The force says there was "heavy congestion" in the area while they and the ambulance service dealt with the incident. 

    Officers say the woman was taken to hospital with a reported pelvic injury.

    After a morning of snow showers adding to overnight snowfall and bringing disruption, it looks like, in parts of Staffordshire and Cheshire, it's already melting away.

    This was the scene outside Hanley Town Hall as council staff cleared some paths.

    The BBC Weather forecast is for sunny spells this afternoon with the chance still of wintry showers.

    A judge at the Old Bailey has sentenced a former probation worker from Stoke-on-Trent to five and a half years in jail for using aid convoys to Syria to fund terrorism. 

    Syed Hoque, 37, (pictured, left) sent thousands of pounds to a nephew who was fighting in Syria with a group linked to al-Qaeda.

    The father-of-four was found guilty of two charges of funding terrorism last month. 

    Another man, Mashoud Miah, 27, of east London, was jailed for two-and-a-half years after being convicted on one count of the same charge.
