There are now almost 100 schools closed in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent due to the snow.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council lists 41 as shut, external on its website and the county council has 52 closed on its list., external

Stoke-on-Trent City Council says it's put down 210 tonnes of grit overnight, external.  

The authority says crews used that amount within 16 hours in its first shift and will keep gritting today. 

Meanwhile Staffordshire County Council says it's had 22 tractor ploughs out clearing roads.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council says its gritting teams are continuing to plough snow off the roads.

They admit it does look "pretty"...

We're seeing quite a lot of snow in Hanley this morning. Here's some video I've just filmed...

The gritting team in Stoke-on-Trent says 210 tonnes of salt has been used over 16 hours on the roads across the area.

The team tweets:, external "Our hard working Gritters is about to change, we will continue to grit today. Take care everyone"

More than 700 homes are without power in the Congleton, Biddulph and Mow Cop areas of Cheshire and Staffordshire, Western Power Distribution tweets.

It says it's working to get electricity back by 10:00 GMT.

Police in Burntwood, Staffordshire, say there are "difficult" driving conditions in the town this morning and side roads are icy.

Gritting routes in east Cheshire have been treated this morning, the council says.

The A537 Cat and Fiddle road is shut between the Bull-Hill Lane junction, Macclesfield, and the A54, in Buxton, due to the icy conditions.

The same is true for the A54 between the Bosley crossroads and Buxton.

There are more than 50 schools closed in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire this morning because of the severe weather.

Snow's continuing to fall this morning across Stoke-on-Trent and the city council website lists 26 schools as shut as of 08:00., external

Staffordshire County Council says it has 37 closures as of 08:16.

Some of the schools described their sites as "dangerous" on site, with surrounding roads affected by heavy snow.

A yellow weather warning is in place for snow and ice today, so take care out there as driving conditions may prove difficult.

Snow and rain showers will continue throughout the day and we could see more over the next 24 hours.

Drivers are warned to expect delays on the M6 northbound between Crewe and Sandbach after an accident involving a lorry.
