Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service, external wants to recruit more women, and mums in particular, as on-call volunteer firefighters.
The organisation says many women in the county could make great firefighters, but perhaps haven't considered joining the service.
Sally Hammond, station commander in Ipswich, was the county's first full-time female firefighter when she joined 20 years ago.
She said: "I was concerned to begin with, especially in my interview when they told me I was going to be the first whole-time woman firefighter.
"Because I'd known some male firefighters, I kind of knew what I was going to get myself into and I felt that I had the confidence and ability to be able to be a firefighter."
