    A former Ipswich Town team-mate of Dalian Atkinson says he was "too young to die", adding he is "speechless, absolutely devastated".

    Jason Dozzell says the two first met at the age of about 14 when Dalian came down to Portman Road on trial.

    He said Dalian was "like family", he was always round at Jason's house, and a close friendship formed between the pair and fellow team-mate Chris Kiwomya.

    Jason described Dalian as a "larger than life character... on his day he was one of the best players I ever played with", and recalled Dalian scoring the "best hat-trick ever" against Middlesbrough.

    He sent his condolences to Dalian Atkinson's family and friends.

  11. Dalian Atkinson's career at Ipswich Townpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 15 August 2016

    Dalian Atkinson began his career at Ipswich, external as an apprentice, before signing a professional contract at Town in June 1985. He made his senior debut against Newcastle in March 1986.

    Atkinson went on to score 21 goals in 69 appearances for Town during his four-year spell at Portman Road.

  13. Man killed in Taser incident believed to be former Ipswich Town striker Dalian Atkinsonpublished at 12:06

    A man who died after being shot with a Taser by police in Shropshire early this morning is believed to be former Ipswich Town footballer Dalian Atkinson.

    West Mercia Police said officers responded to a report of concern for the safety of a man at about 01:30 in the Trench area of Telford.

    A Taser was used on the 48-year-old man and after receiving medical help, he was pronounced dead at about 03:00. Paramedics said the man went into cardiac arrest on his way to hospital. The death has been referred to the police watchdog.

    The Press Association has named the man as former Ipswich, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Real Sociedad star Atkinson.

    The Suffolk Preservation Society is running a competition, external asking people to submit words and images about what makes the county beautiful.

    It wants planners to "have an eye" to the appearance and fit of new developments around the county when they're considering planning applications.

    Chairman Andrew Fane said they're not against new housing: "What we're in favour of [is] well designed, well placed, well located developments that enhance our county rather than damage it."

    A man has been charged by police after two women were raped in Great Cornard in the early hours of 7 August.

    A woman had told police she had encountered a man as she walked back from Sudbury town centre, and was later raped by him at an address in Great Cornard.

    Further inquiries then identified that a second victim had also been raped at the same address, at a similar time.

    The 34-year-old from New Romney in Kent was arrested at Liverpool Street Station on Thursday evening, and brought back to Suffolk for questioning.
