    The biggest home crowd of the season, 23,350, watched on as the Blues were more than a match for their recently relegated opponents.

    "I think winning entertains people but we've played very well today and had we won maybe we'd have a few more in," said McCarthy, 

    "All we can do is concentrate on performances and if we play as well as that week in, week out, people will be happy to come and watch us."

    Seven people were taken into custody after the East Anglian derby at Portman Road yesterday, which ended 1-1.

    Ch Supt Louisa Pepper said: "We said before the game we would not tolerate anti-social behaviour, violence, racial chanting, mindless vandalism or any alcohol-fuelled disorder and the vast majority of [fans] who attended were responsible and respectful.”

    The official attendance for the match was 23,350.

    An astonishing performance from the 42-year-old helped guide the Suffolk side to a 60-29 victory over Cradley Heathens, external at West Row.

    "His influence in the pits with the youngsters is massive," said Jolly. "On the track he took me back to a different era with some wonderful team riding." 

    "If our lads don’t listen and learn from Jon they are missing out on a marvellous opportunity."

    The Suffolk side dismantled fierce rivals Cradley Heathens, external to record their seventh successive home win.

    Four riders were paid for double figure scores as the rampant Fen Tigers won 60-29.

    “This was a little bit special today, all six lads gave their all, riding with passion and no little skill for what was probably just about a perfect afternoon for our fans," said chairman Kevin Jolly.

    Jon Armstrong (pictured) was the Fen Tigers star performer, with an incredible paid-17. 

    Captain Dan Halsey weighed in with 14 while three other riders, Jordan Jenkins, Connor Coles and Alfie Bowtell, were also paid for double figure scores.

    It was only Jonas Knudsen's second goal in English football but it meant the world to Ipswich Town fans.

    The 23-year-old left-back scored the Blues equaliser in yesterday's East Anglian derby, meaning it finished 1-1 against Norwich City at Portman Road.

    Manager Mick McCarthy joked: "Oh I bought him to be scoring with his right foot!"

    He added: "He was unlucky just before it when he and Daryl Murphy got in each other's way, but five minutes later he's in the box and scores a great goal."

    Jonas Knudsen's goal on the stroke of half-time cancelled out Cameron Jerome's opener for the visitors.

    "I'm delighted with the performance," said McCarthy. "I thought we were the better team and conceded against the run of play.

    "We didn't respond very well last week (at Brentford) but we did this week, and it's a really solid performance and a good result."

    Ipswich Town, external manager Mick McCarthy said on Friday he had no worries about his young players handling the atmosphere of an East Anglian derby, and he was proved correct.

    Grant Ward and Adam Webster, both 21, shone as the Blues fought back to draw 1-1 against Norwich City yesterday.

    "I thought Grant Ward was excellent, he's been terrific, and Adam's a good player who's getting better and better," said McCarthy.

    "The Championship is a real physical trial and test. He'd have been used to more of the ball at (his former club) Portsmouth, so he's having to do a lot of defending and I'm pleased with him."

    The Canaries have been relying on Cameron Jerome up front since their return to The Championship, with Kyle Lafferty appearing out of favour. 

    Jerome scored in City's 1-1 draw with Ipswich at the weekend. Norwich missed out on forward Ross McCormack earlier in the transfer window.

    The 23-year-old, who'd only scored once in his previous 47 appearances for the Blues, got the equaliser in yesterday's East Anglian derby.

    "It was brilliant. What an atmosphere and a fantastic feeling," Jonas told the club's Ipswich Player HD.

    "I'd say this was the nicest atmosphere inside Portman Road I've played in. There was also a brilliant atmosphere on Boxing Day last year (against QPR) but this one was great."

    Several fans were treated for the affects of flares thrown during the match between Ipswich Town and Norwich City yesterday.

    Police said some people had "appeared to be set on causing trouble" at the derby clash between the East Anglian rivals.

    Seven people were arrested, including:

    • A 23-year-old Norwich man on suspicion of possession of class A drugs
    • A 23-year-old man from Colchester and a 57-year-old man from Witham on suspicion of breaching a notice to leave following a bout of anti-social behaviour
    • A 29-year-old man from Felixstowe was held on suspicion of affray
    • a 23-year-old man from Norwich was arrested on suspicion of assault
    • A 34-year-old Ipswich man from Ipswich was held on suspicion of letting off a flare in the stands, while a 45-year-old Norwich man was arrested for possession of a lit flare inside the ground. 

    The seven were being held in custody in Martlesham.
