    Test landings are under way in Woodbridge to see how a giant RAF transport plane performs on soft terrain.

    A specially-constructed runway measuring 1.7km (1.05-miles) was built by 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment for the task over three weeks.

    Described as "the backbone" of the RAF's transport aircraft fleet, it can operate at either high or low-level altitudes to deploy troops and equipment.

    I'm at Rock barracks, near Woodbridge, under glorious blue skies and within touching distance of the Airbus A400M. 

    A soft, sandy runway has been created to test how the aircraft could cope on unfamiliar terrains. 

    So far it has been loaded with 100 tonnes and managed not to get stuck in the boggy terrain. Today, it's being upped to 120 tonnes.

  6. Dalian Atkinson inquest: Adjourned until Novemberpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

    The inquest into the death of former Ipswich Town footballer Dalian Atkinson has been adjourned until November, when the case will be reviewed. 

    Coroner John Ellery said: "I adjourn this inquest for three months to 22 November... It is subject to review pending completion of the IPCC investigation, which I am told will take nine months."

    Two police officers with the West Mercia force are currently suspended pending the criminal investigation into the ex-professional footballer's death. 

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has told the officers were "under criminal investigation" and that as part of its inquiry the officers had also been served with gross misconduct notices. 

    It has also said it will look into the level and type of force used during the incident.

    West Mercia police officers had been called to a report of "concern for safety" for former Ipswich Town footballer Dalian Atkinson at 01:39 on 15 August, his inquest heard. 

    Coroner John Ellery was told the former striker had become unresponsive shortly after a Taser was used.

    The inquest, at Shrewsbury, heard that a post-mortem examination carried out by a home office pathologist at University Hospital Coventry two days later concluded the cause of death was "to be advised, pending further investigation".

    The death of the retired player, who lived in Holly Road, in Little Dawley, near Telford, is currently subject to criminal investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

    Doctors battled in vain for more than half an hour to save former Ipswich Town footballer Dalian Atkinson after he was shot with a police Taser, a coroner has heard.

    Medics at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Shropshire, carried out CPR for 35 minutes after officers Tasered him in the early hours of 15 August in the street where grew up in Telford.

    Paramedics were called by police after the incident involving the 48-year-old former striker, who also played for Aston Villa, and immediately began working to save him.

    Mr Atkinson went into crdiac arrest on his way to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

  10. Abellio Greater Anglia signs new contract until 2025published at 11:29 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

    Rail operator Abellio Greater Anglia, external has officially signed a new nine-year contract to run trains connecting Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, London, Norfolk and Suffolk.

    The Department for Transport, external confirmed the company as the operator of the new East Anglian rail franchise, starting from 16 October.

    The firm has said it will invest £1.5bn in new trains, the redevelopment of Broxbourne, Cambridge, Cheshunt, Harlow and Southened Victoria stations, punctuality and reliability, and thousands more car park and bike spaces. 

    It has also said it will run faster services, including two "Norwich in 90" trains each way per day and better connections for Cambridge, Lowestoft and Norwich.

    Abellio Greater Anglia operates the East region's current rail service.

    Bruce Hanson, from the Broads Authority, external, says the needs of business and those of the environment need to compliment each other. 

    "It's a very difficult balance, but I'm pleased to say that many tourism businesses, external really understand that. 

    "They know that a large proportion of their profits come from the quality of the environment from which they're operating in and they understand that they need to look after it."

    A holiday business for the Broads says people are enjoying day trips out on the water through their busiest period of the year. 

    July and August account for half of their annual incomes and it's thought the weaker pound following the Brexit vote should make holidays at home more attractive

    Barbara Greasley, from Norfolk Broads Direct, said it was too early to say what the impact of Brexit had been.

    She said: "I think people almost certainly are staying at home, and I was just flicking through our day boat tickets from yesterday and I think you'll be amazed how many were from Norfolk and Suffolk yesterday, which is great that people are doing what's on their doorstep."

    The 4/3/3 formation that's worked so well for Ipswich Town, external in their last two matches looks set to stay.

    Boss Mick McCarthy switched from his favoured 4/4/2 line-up for last week's trip to Wolves and it resulted in Town's best two performances of the season.

    "I went to 4/3/3 against Barnsley and we scored four goals in the second half, so it is something I've considered," said McCarthy.

    "It can make you more compact and then at times you've only got one striker and he gets isolated, which makes you less of a threat. It's certainly a consideration."

    Ipswich Town, external striker Luke Varney has admitted he'd like to extend his stay at Portman Road.

    The 33-year-old, whose current deal expires in January, says "it feels like a trial."

    He added: "I want to play as many minutes as possible and help the team out which I've always tried to do. I'm really pleased the gaffer rang me as he must have a lot of targets.

    "I'll be hoping to stay for as long as possible because I love the club and I love being involved with the gaffer and the lads."

    A 73-year-old man arrested following the sudden death of Beryl Mary Taylor at Rattlesden in July has been re-bailed to return to police in November.

    Police were called to an address in Birds Green in Rattlesden, near Stowmarket, about 12:30 on 11 July after the death of Mrs Taylor, 70, who was known as Mary.

    The man was initially arrested on suspicion of assisting a suicide, but was further arrested on suspicion of murder.

    The Airbus A400M, some of which are being tested in Woodbridge, was developed at a cost of €20bn and was designed to be a heavy aircraft for military and humanitarian operations.

    It took a decade to bring the A400M to the skies in one of the European military industry's most ambitious projects - with the first plane delivered in 2013.

    The Ministry of Defence says the tests at the temporary runway at Rock Barracks, Woodbridge, are to ensure the aircraft can "safely carry out all the tasks that are planned".

    The UK has ordered 22 A400Ms to operate from RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire.

    We're heading to Woodbridge later today to take a closer look at the aircraft.
