    The original Buttermarket opened in 1992 and offered an interesting contrast to the neighbouring 15th Century Ancient House - one of Ipswich's landmark buildings.

    The shopping centre certainly had a distinctive look, but 20 years after opening many of the retail units behind the glass facade were empty - and the food court had closed down.

    The Vue chain was given planning permission in 2012 to build a new cinema at the Buttermarket, but the plans were later shelved.

    However, the centre was eventually sold for £9.2m in 2015, and the refurbishment was under way soon after.

    The first restaurants, Prezzo, Coast to Coast and Cosy Club are now open as part of the £35m revamp. Wagamama, Byron, Empire cinema and a gym are to follow.

    Ben Gummer says he is "delighted" to see the new-look Buttermarket nearing completion.

    Posting on Facebook, external, the Ipswich MP said: "This is another important step in the renovation of our town centre and I'm extremely grateful to the developers who have made this happen."

    The hoardings have been removed from outside the Buttermarket, external in Ipswich, and the new-look shopping and leisure centre is now open for business.

    The centre, which originally opened in 1992, is being revamped to include restaurants and an Empire cinema, which is due to open later this year.

    So far Prezzo, Cosy Club and Coast to Coast are completed - with Wagamama and Byron set to follow.

    A church in Ipswich has been named as one of the four best rescued heritage sites in the country.

    A restoration project has brought St Mary at the Quay back into use as a flexible space for heritage, arts, learning, complementary therapy, social activity and contemplation.

    Quay Place is one of four projects shortlisted for Best Rescue of a Heritage Site at the 2016 Historic England Angel Awards, external.

    Those behind the scheme said it was "fantastic news".

    We saw this stunning photograph of Ipswich, posted by the National Police Air Service on Sunday.

    It's been getting a lot of retweets on Twitter.

    The photo shows Ipswich Waterfront in the top right hand corner, the town centre on the top left and the Portman Road football ground in the centre of the photo, towards the left.

    The helicopter was assisting with the policing of Sunday's derby match between Ipswich Town and Norwich City.

    A warm end to the day, with a few evening showers. Tonight will be dry with patchy mist and low cloud.

    Temperatures expected to fall to around 15C (59F). Blustery winds easing to a light south to south westerly.

    The mother of Reuben Harvey-Smith has been talking to BBC Look East about how there is "nothing to achieve" by staying angry after her three-year-old son had to have his legs and seven fingers amputated.

    Reuben was admitted to Ipswich Hospital in 2015 for treatment for burns and then misdiagnosed with tonsillitis after he had a sore throat.

    As his condition deteriorated, he was re-admitted a day later and correctly diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome.

    Blood poisoning meant he had to have the amputations.

    The hospital has admitted liability for the misdiagnosis and is working out a compensation package for Reuben's lifelong care with the family's solicitors.

    Suffolk Police have just told me they expect to partially re-open the A140 "soon" following a multi-vehicle crash at Stoke Ash.

    They said they believed someone had broken an arm, but that was the worst confirmed injury so far.

    The A140 between Diss and Ipswich is blocked in both directions.

    There has been a multi-vehicle accident at Stoke Ash around the Workhouse Road junction.

    Pairs of Eurasian cranes, a species among Britain's rarest, have successfully raised three chicks at a Fenland nature reserve.

    A pair at RSPB Lakenheath Fen, known to staff as Little and Large, have repeated their breeding success of 2015 by rearing a single chick this year. Another pair of the rare birds have raised two chicks.

    Staff at the site, which borders Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, hope all three young cranes will go on to find mates over the next three to five years, eventually settling down and raising chicks of their own

    The government is playing down speculation Theresa May is considering abandoning plans for more regional mayors. 

    The Times newspaper made the suggestion, external this morning, but the communities department says devolution deals being offered to councils will continue "in the usual way".
