    Staying fine and dry and feeling warm in the sunshine. However, there's an increasing chance of thunderstorms during the evening and night, particularly across the western half of the region.

    The risk of some further thundery showers across the west continues tomorrow morning. The eastern half of the region will remain largely dry with sunny spells. They'll be a maximum temperature of 26C (78F).

    Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for forthcoming matches with Oman and Serbia.

    Martin O Neill's side face Oman in a friendly in Dublin in a week's time, before moving onto Belgrade and their opening World Cup qualifier.

    Murphy last featured for the Irish at Euro 2016 and has 23 international caps to date, but is yet to score for his country.

    Smoke stretching across the railway line from a building fire at Claydon, between Ipswich and Stowmarket has meant railway lines are blocked, says train operator Abellio Greater Anglia.

    Disruption is expected to last for some time with delays currently at 30 minutes. The problems are expected to continue on the line until 19:00.

    Services have been cancelled between Ipswich and Stowmarket, but also affected are people wishing to travel through Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Peterborough and Cambridge. , external

    The A14 is said to be closed in both directions after a police incident, reports BBC Travel

    The disruption starts at junction 44, which is the Moreton Hall interchange near Bury St Edmunds and diversions are in place while the incident is dealt with.

    Earlier today we streamed footage of the Airbus A400M as it test-landed on an especially-constructed runway just outside Woodbridge live on our Facebook Page, external.

    Here's the plane, caught on camera in the skies over Aldeburgh on one of her many flights. 

    She's been described as the "backbone" of the RAF's transport aircraft fleet and is one of 22 bought by the MoD to deploy troops and equipment between theatres of operation.

  12. Abellio to replace 1,000 trains in new dealpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

    As we told you earlier, train operator Abellio, external has officially signed its new nine-year deal for the Greater Anglia network.

    Among the changes Abellio is promising are more than 1,000 new carriages to replace its entire fleet - and they should all be in service by the end of 2020.

    Managing director Jamie Burles said: "We have got a big team that’s been working on that now for just around two years, so getting everything in place with regards to the ordering of the trains, the right spec of the trains and then doing everything with the infrastructure."

    District councillors look set to give plans to demolish Blundeston Prison the go-ahead.

    Waveney District Council's planning committee will discuss Badger Building's proposals for the 24 acre (10ha) site this evening.

    Under the plans, there will be about 150 new homes, a mixture of flats and affordable houses. There will also be a care home, shops and offices.

    Four people have objected to the plans, raising concerns about the proposed shops.

    The future of former Blundeston Prison is set to be discussed by district councillors later. 

    Built in 1963, the prison's most notorious inmates included the gangster Reggie Kray and Lottery winner Michael Carroll.

    The last of the 500 prisoners were moved out of the site in December 2013.

    It was sold by the Ministry of Justice to Lowestoft-based housing developers Badger Building for £3m in January 2016.

    Waveney District Council's planning committee is being advised to approve proposals to knock it down for housing.

    A former prison near Lowestoft looks set to be demolished to make way for new homes, external.   

    The site at Blundeston has been empty for three years.

    Developers Badger Building want to knock the building down and replace it with flats and starter homes, shops, offices and a care home.

    The proposals will be discussed by Waveney District Council's planning committee tonight. Councillors are being recommended to approve the plans.

    New plans to bypass a notorious stretch of road in north Suffolk are being considered. 

    The Barnby Bends, near Lowestoft, have been the scene of at least three accidents in recent weeks.

    Proposals for a bypass are at an early stage, but local MP Peter Aldous said: "The preliminary work I've done, shows that there is, I think, a compelling case for it. 

    "We've got Enterprise Zones in Beccles, Lowestoft and Yarmouth and what we need to be getting is a first-class road network linking those all together, because that's what will attract business."

    Test landings are under way in Woodbridge to see how the RAF's new transport plane, the Airbus A400M, external, performs on soft terrain.
