    Team Ipswich swimmer Ryan Crouch, from Manningtree, has qualified for tonight's S9 50 metres freestyle final at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

    The 22-year-old's time of 26.54 was enough to win his heat this afternoon, and was the sixth-fastest time from the heats overall.

  3. Network Rail reveals latest proposals for level crossing changespublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    The latest proposals from Network Rail, which is looking to close or change the use of 31 level crossings, external in the county, have gone on show at a consultation event in Ipswich.

    Today's event at the Town Hall is the first of three, with the second one in Bury St Edmunds in Thursday, and the third in Stowmarket on Friday.

    It says closing level crossings and diverting to alternatives will make the railway safer by removing the points where people can come into contact with trains. 

    It adds that the closures will also help improve reliability and may enable separate future developments for faster and more frequent train services.

    The South Suffolk MP is calling for compensation for British victims of Libyan-sponsored terrorism.

    James Cartlidge called a special Commons debate to raise the case of his constituent, Charles Arbuthnot, whose sister Jane died in the 1983 Harrods bombing by the IRA.

    He argues that it's unfair that British and American victims have had different treatment, as Libya compensated US victims of terrorism, but UK victims were left out of the deal.

    Mr Cartildge says: "To know that they hatched the deal in which they got paid off, and our citizens, murdered in their own country, got nothing, remains a disgrace and a shame to this day."

    A broken-down train at Diss is causing disruption to rail services between Norwich and London. Abellio Greater Anglia warns that trains running through the station may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

    There's a local derby in the Ryman League Cup tonight as AFC Sudbury, external host Lowestoft Town, external

    It's not the first time these sides have met this season; they drew 2-2 draw at Lowestoft's Crown Meadow a few weeks ago.

    Although nothing could separate the teams that day, they are having very different fortunes in the league. Sudbury are fourth, while Lowestoft are struggling in 15th place.

    Former Trawlerboys player and current AFC Sudbury boss Jamie Godbold says last year’s relegation may be affecting Lowestoft's performance this season. 

    He said: "I guess the disappointment of relegation sometimes can hit you and you can take a while to get going. It doesn’t mean they become bad players or a bad team overnight."

    The founder of an animal sanctuary, which is closing after 35 years, says it hasn't been easy to find someone to take on the 20 or so ponies and horses that they've been caring for.

    Sara Higgins, founder of Blossoms, near Beccles, external, says Wendy Valentine, from Hillside Animal Sanctuary, external in Norfolk, keeps her animals out in the field "so they are actually happy horses".

    She added: "The fact that ours can go in a similar way is just incredible. We're so grateful to her."

    An animal rescue centre in Beccles, external is closing after 35 years, with more than 20 ponies set to be moved to a site in Norfolk, external.

    Blossoms homes animals abandoned or uncared for by their owners, and rents available fields, but one of its locations is set to be sold, while winter grazing will be stopped at another..

    Founder Sara Higgins said some of the ponies had health problems. "Some of them are just happy to live out their days as they are," she said.

    Education bosses at Suffolk County Council, external are this afternoon discussing a recommendation to close one of Suffolk's smallest schools.

    About 10 pupils from Peasenhall Primary are currently being taught at nearby Yoxford.

    The school was shut in June, and could officially close by Christmas.

    British TV and film actor Eddie Marsan has spoken exclusively to BBC Suffolk asking for help in finding a friend, Lisa Weaver, 42, who's gone missing from Ipswich.

    He said: "I've known Lisa since she was born, really. She lived two doors away from me in east London and her family are still very good friends of mine, and we're just worried sick abut her."

    Mr Marsan, external has appeared in films with Tom Cruise and Will Smith, and is known for TV work on Little Dorrit and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

    Police have appealed for help in finding an Ipswich woman, who's been reported missing. 

    They say Lisa Weaver, 42, was last seen at about 17:30 last Thursday in the Ipswich area, and ask anyone who believes they may have seen her, or knows where she is, to contact them.

    We brought you news earlier of severe congestion on the A14 eastbound between J51 (A140) and J52 (B1113 Claydon).

    We've now been told that there's a burnt out car west of the Claydon junction, with two fire engines in attendance.

    Then closer to the A140, there's another burnt out car, this time on the central reservation.

    Traffic is queuing both on the A14, and also southbound on the A140.

    Sue Arbuthnot, whose daughter Jane was killed in an IRA bombing at Harrods in 1983, says she "wasn't interested" in compensation, until she heard about compensation for another officer, WPC Yvonne Fletcher.

    She said: "We talk about her; I look at her photos. It's a long time since she was killed, sadly - 1983 is quite a long time.

    "I can't mourn daily, life's got to be lived. 

    "I wasn't interested in compensation before I heard about the Fletchers but now yes, I would like our just desert."

    WPC Jane Arbuthnot was 22, when she was killed in the 1983 Harrods bombing.

    Speaking as South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge is raising the issue in the House of Commons, Sue Arbuthnot said: "I had never considered compensation. 

    "I didn't feel that money would replace a life; obviously it doesn't in any way, but it occasionally makes things easier."

    Team Ipswich swimmer Ryan Crouch will be in action at the Paralympic Games in Rio this afternoon. It's the county's last chance to win a second medal, to go with the bronze won by powerlifter Zoe Newson on Friday.

    Crouch, from Manningtree, will compete in the first heat of the S9, 50 metres freestyle. Yesterday he missed out on qualifying for the 100 metres. 

    Crouch, 22, says the extra attention that has come with being at the games has been surreal: "It's something that is part and parcel of the sport and in any sport to be honest, if you make it on to the big stage this is what to expect. 

    "But I love doing it; love telling people about the sport that I do."

    Ipswich Town will be hoping for their first away win of the season tonight when they head to Derby County, having started in the league with two wins, two draws and two losses to date.

    Their opponents have only won one game, and were even booed off the pitch at the weekend, after a 2-0 loss to Newcastle.

    Town boss Mick McCarthy says a bad atmosphere could help his side, if they make a good start to the game: "Try and keep it tight, try and get a goal, try and have a really good fast start. 

    "And if we do, no doubt the crowd will turn."
