    On paper it's a tough test for Ipswich Town tonight, as they visit Derby County, who many have tipped as promotion contenders.

    The Rams, though, have made a slow start to the season, picking up just five points from their first six games.

    Town boss Mick McCarthy believes that may be down to Derby not adapting to their new manager Nigel Pearson’s formation yet.

    He said: "Nigel has been somebody who's played 4-4-2 with some really good teams, certainly with Leicester, and Derby have been 4-3-3."

    With temperatures expected to reach 30C (86F), making it the hottest September day for more than 40 years, the East of England Ambulance Trust, external has issued the following advice on how to stay safe in the sun.

    • Keep hydrated and wear a hat
    • Use a high-factor sun cream and top up regularly - the sun is at its hottest between 11:00 and 15:00
    • Use insect repellent if you're prone to bites

    And if you're planning a barbecue, make sure the food is cooked thoroughly - and protect yourself and others from flames.

    On the 100th anniversary of the birth of children's author Roald Dahl, the head of Suffolk Libraries has been recalling receiving a signed letter from him, 30 years ago.

    Alison Wheeler, who had been working at at a holiday club in Chantry Library, external, said: "I thought it was a really good idea to get all the children to write a letter to Roald Dahl saying why they liked his books and The BFG.

    "We put them all in an envelope; sent them to his publisher.

    "To my amazement, shortly afterwards, this letter came back, totally not expecting it; it was a jewel of a surprise and also a lovely thing for the children."

  4. Home Office says it takes a 'robust approach' to maritime securitypublished at 09:16 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    Returning now to the story we brought you yesterday, about the sighting of six suspected illegal immigrants at Bawdsey on Saturday evening.

    The Home Office was criticised by Stephen Reid, assistant harbour master at Felixstowe Ferry, who said there had been a lack of support from Border Force after the group had been seen.

    In a statement, a Home Office spokesperson said it took a "robust approach, external" to maritime security, adding that there were "clear signs" that their approach was working.

    It said Immigration Enforcement was investigating the incident at Bawdsey, and suggest if people witness activity they believe could be related to illegal immigration, and require a rapid emergency response, they should call police immediately via 999.

  5. 'Flight of Peace' sculpture unveiledpublished at 08:31 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    A sculpture has been unveiled at the Mount Road roundabout, on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, in remembrance of American servicemen based at Rougham Airfield, external during World War II.

    The servicemen maintained and flew B17 Flying Fortress bombers, which were part of the United States 8th Air Force, based in Europe.

    The "Flight of Peace" is about 3.8m (12ft) high, and it will be illuminated at night. There will also be an information board, explaining its significance, on a footpath next to the roundabout.

    It's going to be a beautiful day today, according to forecaster Kate Kinsella, so we'll try to find some "sunny" stories to bring you to make the most of it.

    We'll start by finding out a bit more about those weather details, and see what the local papers are reporting. I've had a look at the roads and the rails, and it looks as if everything's running smoothly there.

    A black kitten, thought to be about six months old, has been found dumped in a pillowcase in Lound, near Lowestoft.

    The RSPCA said the pillowcase had been tied up so the kitten was unable to escape. It was only her cries that alerted a passerby to her whereabouts on Thursday morning.

    Deputy Ch Insp Amy Collingsworth said: "The kitten was found wearing a collar, but had no tag or microchip.

    "At this point we don't know if she was abandoned by her owners, or has been stolen or lost, and then cruelly dumped by somebody else."

    The RSPCA would like to hear from anyone who has information about the kitten or its owner.

    Ipswich captain Tom Sadler said: "It'll be a good game and a good test to see where we're at.

    "It's good to play a team that's probably better than a lot of the teams we'll play this year."
