    The problem of recruiting staff appears to be getting worse in community hospitals in north and east Suffolk.

    The Patrick Stead Hospital, external in Halesworth (pictured) is suspending inpatient admissions from next month, and there are now concerns that staffing at Beccles Hospital, external is also reaching a crisis point.

    Conservative county councillor for Halesworth, Tony Goldson, explains: "They are having a problem recruiting staff hence the reason they've transferred the staff at Patrick Stead to Beccles - to fill their gaps. 

    "We are working very hard to try and make sure we keep these facilities open, because they are not only needed, they are essential for a community like Halesworth."

  3. CCTV images of car sought following Beccles armed robberypublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 23 September 2016

    Police investigating an armed robbery at a jewellers in Beccles last Friday have released CCTV images of a car they'd like to trace.

    It's a purple/blue Ford Puma, registration T87 ALO, which was seen in the Hungate car park at around 16:00 that afternoon.

    They'd like to hear from anyone who saw it in Beccles, or in the Mutford area.

    Officers believe it could be in the Lowestoft, Gorleston and Great Yarmouth area.

    Following police raids in Great Yarmouth earlier this week, four men and a woman were arrested and released on police bail which they have to answer in November.

  5. Police crack egg throwers casepublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 23 September 2016

    Police have identified four men they want to question following a spate of egg-throwing incidents in Kesgrave.

    After reports that cars were being targeted, with eggs thrown from a moving vehicle, officers have now traced the suspects and seized a large stash of eggs. Three men have received a Penalty Notice for Disorder (PND) for causing alarm and distress to residents and have each been ordered to pay a fine of £80.

    The interest in tickets for Elton John's visit to Portman Road next June has been "phenomenal" among football club supporters, according to ITFC.

    Tickets have gone on general sale today, external through a number of outlets, although the director of sales at the club, Rosie Richardson says there's been good trade for other options during the week: "We released hospitality packages from Monday. One of the options has sold out already. 

    "Tickets went on sale to supporters of the football club from Wednesday and again the interest was phenomenal really.

    "Now it's everyone else's chance to go ahead and secure a ticket for whats going to be a truly memorable event."

    I don't know what you were doing this morning at about 05:25, but these Daniel O'Donnell fans were setting up camp outside the Regent Theatre in Ipswich, to ensure they're first in the queue when tickets for his visit next April , externalgo on sale tomorrow morning.

    Edith, who did not wish to reveal her surname, said: "I love all his music and he makes you feel part of his show. We’ve been coming for a few years now, I love to be at the front of the queue."

    Edith's nephew Richard said he's partly there to be his aunty's bodyguard although he admitted: "I do like listening to the rock and roll songs. I've been doing this 18 years now with my aunty, just so she's not doing it on her own."

    Surprisingly, Edith doesn't want to buy front row tickets when she gets to the box office at 10:00 on Saturday - she prefers to be about three rows back.

    The rescue deal involving the turkey producer Bernard Matthews, external may have left many of the company's suppliers out of pocket. 

    The firm, with farms and has factories in Norfolk and Suffolk, went into administration with debts of more than £90m, it has emerged.

    While the jobs of 2,000 workers appear to be safe after the take-over by food tycoon Ranjit Boparanmany, external, suppliers are now worried they won't get paid because, although the firm's assets are transferred under the deal, its debts may not be. 

    Administrators Deloite, external have confirmed they will be writing to Bernard Matthews' creditors in the next few days.  

    Anglia Farmers Limited, external, the UK's largest agricultural purchasing group, says it is owed £9,000 and can cope with the loss but its managers fear other businesses won't. 

    Several suppliers could now be left thousands of pounds out of pocket.

    The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children has issued its reaction to the scale of the crimes committed by Leslie Constable, whose life sentence for a series of rapes and sexual assaults on young girls we reported yesterday.

    A NSPCC, external spokesman said: "Described by the judge as a committed and dangerous paedophile, the scale of Constable's crimes are truly horrific.

    "He not only abused young girls over many years, but also possessed thousands of indecent images, leaving a trail of victims in his wake.

    "His victims showed tremendous courage in coming forward. Their bravery has prevented a predatory paedophile from harming other children."

    Constable, 47, of Hatfield Road in Ipswich, was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court.

    Now that both Babergh, external and Mid-Suffolk councillors, external have voted in favour of proposals to move their back-room staff to Endeavour House in Ipswich, they've also revealed other changes that are being recommended as a consequence of the move:

    • One main phone number, charged at a local rate and channelled through a customer contact centre
    • Single email address, again handled by a customer contact centre
    • Clearer and simpler joint website
    • Making webchat available to the public, and developing SMS text messaging

    Councillors at Stowmarket-based Mid-Suffolk, external have backed proposals to deliver public services from Endeavour House, the home of Suffolk County Council, external in Ipswich.

    Meeting yesterday evening, councillors voted by a clear majority for the move to co-locate a joint headquarters with Babergh Council, external.

    Babergh councillors, whose headquarters is currently in Hadleigh, voted for the move when they met on Tuesday.

    Leader of Mid-Suffolk, Nick Gowrley, described the vote as a "bold decision" saying it's "the next step to ensuring services are better for residents, simpler for staff and more cost effective for tax payers”.

    Both councils will retain access points in each district.

    "I thought Connor did exceptionally well and he exceeded all of our expectations really," said Hawkins.

    "We've got a grippy, tricky track to ride at the moment and it takes a bit of time to get used to.

    "When the rest of the team see a young boy riding like that it boosts everyone. He was brilliant."
