1. Father of murders victim went 'out of his mind' with worrypublished at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

The father of Tania Nicol, the first of Steve Wright's victims to go missing in Ipswich 10 years ago, says he went "out of his mind" with worry when she disappeared.

    Jim Duell

Jim Duell said: "I had said to Tania once, knowing she was taking some kind of drugs, that you're going to end up in an institution, jail or dead."

The revelation she had been a sex worker was a shock.

"We realised it was the desperation for drugs," he said. "There's a line that you cross, she crossed that line into that life.

"I wasn't disappointed with her. These are daughters, not just things, not sex machines.

"They are human beings who went to school, who were bright, pretty and innocent, and then they grow up into a world of drugs, evil.

"It's all out there to corrupt their lives. They fell into corruption."

Urging him to admit the killings, Mr Wright added: "Well it's the only thing he can do, I mean he's a man... but he doesn't do it, does he?

"The only thing he could do to excuse himself is to stand up and admit it.

"I wouldn't forgive him, you can't forgive him - their lives were taken away, you don't forgive anybody for that anyway."

The father of a man who murdered five sex workers 10 years ago has called on his son to admit the killings.

    Conrad Wright

Steve Wright is serving a whole life jail term for killing the women, who went missing from the streets of Ipswich over a six-week period.

His father Conrad, 80, said admitting the murders was the "only thing" his son could do, but added he wouldn't forgive him for the crimes.

The 58-year-old killer admitted having sex with four of the five women but pleaded not guilty to murdering them.

He was convicted after a trial in 2008 but has always protested his innocence.

We're ready for a new week, I hope you are too.

It's 10 years since Tania Nicol, the first of five women who were murdered by Steve Wright, left the house where she lived with her mother and brother and set off for Ipswich.

    She never returned home.

We'll be remembering those victims, hearing from Steve Wright's father, and finding out whether street prostitution is becoming a problem in the town again.
