  2. Post Office urged to rethink plans to move main Ipswich branchpublished at 11:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

The leader of Ipswich Borough Council, external says he's concerned that plans to move the town's main post office into WH Smith in Westgate Street could eventually lead to it being closed down completely.

    Ipswich Borough Council offices

David Ellesmere said: "My worry is that if our post office goes upstairs in WH Smith's people find it harder to get to; we have another review in four or five years' time and they say 'nobody's using it so we can close it down or make it even smaller'."

In a statement, the Post Office said:"We welcome views from customers and community representatives during the consultation and all comments and feedback will be carefully considered before we make a final decision.

"The rationale for the proposal is that we want to ensure the branch is sustainable into the future. The new branch would provide the same services for customers, but would be more cost-effective."

We'll have more on this story as we get it.
