Actor Bill Nighy is appearing at this year's Aldeburgh Documentary Festival, external, introducing the screening of a film about girls playing football in the Nepalese Himalayas.

The festival opens this evening at the town's cinema with the cookery film Ants On A Shrimp.

Lowestoft's loss is the region's gain, according to the project manager of a £1.5bn offshore windfarm.

As we've reported, the operational base of Galloper will be based at Harwich in Essex.

It was thought that Lowestoft was the first choice and would get the benefit from secure jobs for the next 25 years.

Harwich was chosen as it is closest to the windfarm.

Project manager Toby Edmonds said: "This does complete the hat-trick for Galloper because we are at Yarmouth at Siemens for the turbines, Lowestoft for the construction base and now we're at Harwich for the service and maintenance phase.

"I think it's been a really good example of how the whole region can benefit from a project like Galloper."

A Suffolk town has lost out to Essex to become the onshore headquarters of a £1.5bn windfarm.

The operations and maintenance base for the Galloper offshore windfarm will be based at Harwich, it has been announced. 

It had been hoped the headquarters, expected to create 7,200 jobs, would be at Lowestoft, where the construction team is based.

Toby Edmonds, Galloper project developer, said: "Really it comes down to geography. 

"Harwich is the closest to the windfarm that we can use as an operational base. 

"Every minute and every gallon of diesel we can save is well worth having and makes the difference over the lifetime of the windfarm."

The uncle of missing airman Corrie Mckeague, who recently spoke out about the police investigation, says he and Nicola Urquhart, Corrie's mum, have had a meeting with the investigating team.

Tony Wringe said: "We've had a good conversation about where we think we've got some issues and some general specific concerns.

"I think there was a recognition that there are some areas that there's an opportunity to improve the way that we're communicating and some of the things that are happening, so we take a positive from that.

"It's a positive development from where we were 24/48 hours ago because I think it's fair to say that Nicola was really starting to feel let down and concerned that the right things weren't happening."

Tuesday of this week marked four years to the day that Mick McCarthy took over as manager of Ipswich Town and on that day he granted us an extended interview.

You can hear it in full during tomorrow's Matchday programme from 14:00 during which the boss addresses the beginnings of his reign up to the present day. 

Plenty has happened during that time with the team avoiding what looked like certain relegation at one point and almost making it to the Premier League. 

On the current negativity around Portman Road, McCarthy had this to say: "It was strange last Saturday, I almost got the feeling some people were disappointed when we equalised. 

"That's quite sad."

A leading journalists' union has challenged the decision to axe 57 jobs by a newspaper publisher that sells titles in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. 

The National Union of Journalists said it was "extremely concerned by the proposed job losses at Archant".

"There is little in the reported statements from Jeff Henry, chief executive, or Matt Kelly, chief content officer, to indicate how moving to an 'audience first' approach can justify the loss of at least 17 jobs," Andy Smith, national executive member, said. 

"Putting 57 staff at risk of redundancy, particularly at this time of year, will be incredibly stressful for them all, and our first responsibility is to support our members through this process. 

"Though the consultation is at a very early stage, it is difficult to see how these proposals can have any other effect than to impose more work and more stress on an already overburdened staff."

A motorist has been banned for driving for six months and has to pay more than £500 in fines and costs for speeding through a village at over 50mph above the speed limit.

Ryan Pearson, 19, from Stoke Ash was clocked by police doing 83mph on the A140 in Stonham in May.

He's been sentenced at Ipswich Magistrates.

The blaze was brought under control by lunchtime.

The two sides meet at Hillsborough, with Town seeking only their second win in nine matches.

"They've had huge investment into the team," said McCarthy. "I think about [Gary] Hooper, [Steven] Fletcher, [Fernando] Forestieri and [Barry] Bannan. 

"Carlos [Carvalhal, manager] impressed me the first time we played them and we beat them 2-1. They were a real handful that day. 

"He's a good guy Carlos and I've enjoyed his company when I've spoken to him."
