    A wallaby, a pig and a cow were among just some of the animals killed after being hit by vehicles on the East of England's roads last year.

    Highways England, external says 126 animals were killed and many more were injured.   

    There have been several sightings of wild wallabies, which are native to Australia, in Norfolk in recent years according to the department. 

    Deer were the most common animal killed or injured, being involved in around one in four cases, with cats, dogs, otters and swans among the 10 most frequently killed.

    The Road Traffic Act 1988, external states that drivers must stop and report to police any incident in which they hit dogs, horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, donkeys and mules on the road. 

    People can do this by calling 101.

    There have been a number of incidents on the county's roads this morning: 

    • The B1106 Westley Road in Bury St Edmunds is partially blocked near Westley Interchange, because of a collision and recovery work
    • The A1088 is partially blocked in Euston near Barnham Road, by an overturned car
    • Drivers are urged to approach the B1117 in Braiseworth, between Thornham Parva and Eye, with care due to an earlier collision

    More than 33,000 people watched missing Corrie Mckeague's mother answer questions about the search effort.

    During the 90-minute #findcorrie Facebook Live, external session, Nicola Urquhart talked about her 23-year-old son and the police investigation to date.

    RAF Honington gunner Mr Mckeague disappeared after a night out in Bury St Edmunds on 24 September.

    Mrs Urquhart told viewers that the "horseshoe" area where he was last seen had been forensically searched.

    She said the other side had not been, however, and she has been asking police to search the area.

    Mrs Urquhart also appealed for the gentleman spotted on CCTV on Cornhill Walk at 03:35 to be identified. 

  6. Corrie Mckeague: Missing airman a 'social hand grenade'published at 09:35 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2016

    The mother of missing Corrie Mckeague has described him as a "social hand grenade".

    Nicola Urquhart hosted a 90-minute question and answer session as a Facebook Live, external last night.

    She said Mr Mckeague, who has been missing since 24 September, would get into a stranger's car.

    The 23-year-old was last spotted on CCTV walking alone in Bury St Edmunds at about 03:25. 

    Mother-of-three Mrs Urquhart said: "He's not so much a social butterfly, more a social hand grenade who absolutely lives for the moment."

  7. Aldeburgh plans events to commemorate country's first female mayorpublished at 09:25

    Events are being planned in Aldeburgh to mark 100 years since the death of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the pioneering physician and campaigner who retired to the coastal town and became England's first female mayor.

    Robin Boyd, who's on the organising committee, said she's well known in the area because of her many achievements.

    "There's a large wing in Ipswich hospital called the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson wing and that's kind of the clue to her life," he said.

    "She was absolutely instrumental in promoting the role of women in medicine in the late 1800s, really a terrific woman."

    There's been a big increase in the number of people who visited Bury St Edmunds in the week before Christmas, according to the business organisation Our Bury St Edmunds, external.

    Mark Cordell said there were 10,000 more visitors to the town than the same week in 2015.

    "Our figures for last week unbelievably were up 13% on the same week last year and last year we had an ice rink in the town, so Bury continues to boom," he said.

    "It's unbelievable the number of people that keep wanting to come into our lovely town centre."

    Staying with the weather... the Met Office, external has issued a "yellow warning" for freezing fog patches across the East of England.

    Driving conditions may be difficult and journeys may take longer.

    The fog patches are expected to thin slowly, but may persist throughout the day.

    It will be dry and frosty across the region overnight with mist and freezing fog patches. Minimum temperature: -2C(28F).

    There'll be some sunny intervals tomorrow after a frosty start. 

    However, widespread mist and freezing fog, dense in places, may persist all day in some locations. Maximum temperature: 4C (39F).

  17. Hospitals collect millions in parking feespublished at 16:30

    The three hospitals serving Suffolk collected more than £3m last year from their car parks, according to figures from the Press Association.

    Ipswich Hospital collected £1.56m in parking fees last year

    The Patients Association, external is criticising the amount made nationally, saying that NHS coffers are being topped up by taking money from the sick and vulnerable.

  18. Victim of Boxing Day collision namedpublished at 16:00

    A pedestrian who died following a fatal collision on the A14 at Sproughton on Monday has been named as James Holt, 43, of High Road, Trimley St Mary.

    Police, who had been called at about 17:50 to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 54 and 55, have asked any witnesses to the incident to contact them.

    Nicola Urquhart says she's planning to go live on Facebook this evening at 19:00 to try to answer questions about her missing son Corrie Mckeague.

    Writing on the, external "Find Corrie" Facebook page, she says: "Some of you may be aware, I tried to answer questions a few weeks back online. 

    "I could not have underestimated just how many questions you all have more.

    "So I am going to try on Facebook live and see if this works.

    "I will aim for 7pm. So if there is anything I can try to clarify, please just ask.

    "There may be questions you have that I am unable to answer as it's the police that would be better placed. 

    "If this is the case, it would be my intention to then put the top questions to the police in an open public letter. 

    "Thank you Nicola x x "

    She adds that she's opening a post at about 18:00 which is just for questions.
