A very rare aircraft has been renovated in North Yorkshire and is about to go on display.

It's called a Supermarine Swift and is the only complete aircraft of its kind in the world.

There's quite a bit of secrecy around the project, but we know it's been restored by an organisation near Selby and the museum the plane is going to will be revealed later this week.

But I've been lucky enough to have a sneak preview, and now so can you:

  3. Landmark Kirby Misperton fracking decision 'defered' in High Courtpublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Mike Kemp
    Reporter, BBC Radio York

A judge at High Court in London has reserved judgement in a hearing held to decide whether North Yorkshire County Council made the right decision earlier this year by allowing fracking at Kirby Misperton, near Pickering.

North Yorkshire County Council  approved the fracking site in May.

Anti-fracking activists say the council acted unlawfully in approving test drilling.

    fracking protest

Fracking company, Third Energy, said the process, which involves drilling shale rock and injecting high-pressure water in order to release gas, is safe.

The judge was asked to grant a judicial review of the decision.

However, Mrs Justice Lang has deferred her decision, in what she has described as "a difficult case" and will deliver her judgement later this year.

Earlier, Judge Mr Justice Wilkie told the jury at the Old Bailey that the cause of death had been given by a forensic pathologist as multiple stab and gunshot wounds.

Evidence of gunshot injuries to both her hands indicated Mrs Cox had tried to protect her head, the judge added.

He summarised the prosecution's closing speech which said internet research on Jo Cox and sawn-off rifles pointed to him being minded to kill her, and an apparent confession on his arrest.

He said the defence barrister had reminded the jury of the burden of proof needed to convict Mair.

The Ouse peaked overnight in York at a height of 3.25m, and the Foss Barrier in the city has been used for the first time since pumps were upgraded following last year's Christmas floods.

It seems to be working well at the moment, which is making the Environment Agency very happy:

  17. Watch: Selby Abbey - Wrapped up warm for winterpublished at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Andrew Barton
    BBC Local Live, York

The unstoppable force that is winter has been making itself very much felt over the last few days and the layers of clothing are beginning to be pulled on.

Nowhere more so than in Selby, where hundreds of keen knitters have been busy with their needles to create something really special for the Abbey.

They've created a 600-yard red scarf, so big it required the specialist equipment of the Fire Service to put it in place.

The scarf, which took a year to make, is to celebrate 40 years of Christingle services taking place at the Abbey.

Children who attend the services are given a "Christingle", an orange with a red band wrapped around it and a candle on top. The orange represents the world, the candle represents God's light and the red band represents the love and blood of Christ.

The huge scarf wrapped around the Abbey represents the red band around the Christingle, and the service the scarf celebrates has raised thousands for The Children's Society.

    BBC Local Live, York

Work to repair an escape lane on the A169 Blue Bank at Sleights is continuing today, but North Yorkshire County Council don't know yet when the road will re-open.

The council say replacing the escape lane is a major operation, requiring five to 600 tonnes of gravel.

The road won't open again until all of the arrester bed is back in place.

    Landslip

The road was closed on Monday evening when gravel from an escape road washed out because of the amount of water running down the bank.

  20. Listen: Anti-fracking challenge - 'The fight will go on'published at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Nathan Turvey
    BBC Radio York News

Campaigners from North Yorkshire are spending a second day at the High Court, as legal action over plans for fracking in the county continues.

A judge has been asked to rule on the decision made by North Yorkshire County Council earlier this year to approve the process near Pickering.

Philip Tate, from the campaign group Frack Free Ryedale, says the fight will go on to keep fracking out of North Yorkshire, regardless of of the outcome of the High Court challenge.

Planners voted 7-4 in favour of Third Energy's application in May, despite more than 4,300 objections and only 36 representations of support.

The county council said in a statement it had given "proper regard to all material planning considerations before approving the application".
